There would be a WHOLE lot of regulations concerning screen names the kinds that people can use.
For example:
I would not allow creepy women over the age of 60 to have the screen name "smoothallover(somenumber)" and "lovemegently(somenumber)". It is a very tragic thing when an 18 year old talks to a 60+ year old woman with that screen name. I suppose she might be in the right with that screen name, though. I mean, with all those wrinkles, I bet she really is smooth all over. And if you didn't love her gently, she might get hurt.
::shudder::
I would also not allow anyone under 16 to have a screen name like "MsPimpette(somenumber)". I talked with a mother today who forgot hers, but remembered her daughters screen name (I eventually talked to the daughter that sounded like she was 12). If you were a mother, and you knew your daughters screen name was that, what the heck do you think she'd be doing with that screen name!?! So ya.. under 16 and over 60 would NOT be allowed any sexual screen names, for the sake of humanity. That is, if it was up to me. Because guys like me get really REALLY disturbed when they see those screen names and match the age.
Also, if it was up to me, a CCC (someone you call over the phone at AOL) would have the ability to cancel, reactivate, start, and fix any accounts, issue passwords, look up billing information, and just about do anything because it is incredibly annoying being transferred all over the place like a rag doll. But since I am only authorized to create accounts, I can't cancel them, I can't issue new passwords... instead you have to be transferred. So many people get so irratated over this, and believe me, so do I. I hate transferring people and making them waste time. Thats some thing else I would change.
Ok, I was just kind of eeek'd out about that old lady with the screen name. I am scarred for life. Oh well, I suppose if she wants to have that screen name... let her...
But it's still disturbing.

*rips mask off* GASP! Zotto turns out to be a perverted eighty-year-old gramma with too much time on her hands! BWAHAHAHAHA!
*sends sympathy to Mr. Smith* I work in a tour company, and it's actually very similar to your job in that I have no power to change anything and have to transfer people all over the place. Suckage.
T - that spiel about granny with a come-hither nick makes me think of the tattoo scene. Envision a young girl getting a tattoo on some suggestive place. She's young, she's slim, she can carry it off. Fast forward thirty or forty or fifty or sixty, etc. years and she's not young, she doesn't have the figure of a nubile young woman *but* she still has the *ugh* tattoo.

I personally know several homely, overweight girls my age that have 'cutie' 'sexy' and/or 'hottie' in their screennames. and they believe it too. sending strangers pictures of them in tube tops and high heels.

Guess I'm gonna be a minority voice here. I totally agree on the issue of minors with sexually suggestive screen names.
However...
I think older, heavier, etc. people have a right to pick whatever name they want. I'm also willing to bet there are more overweight male keyboard potatoes calling themselves "superstud" (or some variation on the uber-male theme) than there are female counterparts.
I'm kind of strange, I guess. Never been attracted to women younger than me. As I get older, the women in my age group seem to retain their attractiveness.
Personally, what I want AOL to change most is to fix the upgrade of version 8.0 - the current version clicks on "aol anywhere" instead of what I really want to access. And it's often enough to be really really annoying. I've accessed 8.0 on several different computers so it really seems to be a persistent problem. I guess we AOL users are too downtrodden and timid as a group to put up much of a fuss about it.

Can you cancel my AOL account? In a mad attempt to determine if my modem/phone line/isp was my problem connecting to the internet I got a free AOL trial and now that I have my problem figured out I want to cancel my AOL. Can you do that for me? No.. No.. Don't hit the transfer button! Don't do it!

whenever i see names like that, i assume the opposite to be true. i can't help it. no one who was actually cute would need to use the name to make people think she was.
i wonder what that person is compensating for. i can't help it.
it makes me giggle when i see rakeesh's aim sn. if i hadn't seen a picture, i'd assume he was a scrawny little punk. if i didn't know better, i'd think primal curve was a fat chick!
quote:Hey! there is nothing wrong with being an overweight 44 year old. Or being a clown. I make people laugh dammit!
Hey! I never said there was anything wrong with it. As a matter of fact, except for the fact that I'm 47, it's a pretty good description of me.
But then neither of us has "superstud" or somesuch as a screen name.
Speaking strictly for myself, it's not something I'm likely to do now or in the future. I don't need to give anyone new ammo to ridicule me.

To cancel an AOL account, call 18882658008 for our cancelation que. I really really hate that stupid music they have when put on hold/transferred.
I got a call from someone last night with a 580 dollar outstanding balance. What had happened with them is they didn't know you were supposed to cancel your account, had tried out about 10 different "free" trials, and they had all accumulated into a big load of crap for her.
So, if any of you do happen to try a free trial of America online, be sure to cancel at least 15 days before your trial ends and be put on a pending cancelations which means you still get to use AOL for 15 more days, just don't use it afterwards and it will be canceled. I say this because tons of people call saying the cancelations won't answer (because they are friggin busy) and you need the time.
And now I'm just ranting...

If I ran AOL I would be too busy firing my helicopter pilots for failing to maintain perfectly level flight so that my daquiri doesn't spill into the hot tub.
