Peter Jackson couldn't use that ending, Kavon, because Harrison Ford wasn't available to play Aragorn.

As the boat pulls up, everyone is stunned to see Elvis emerge from within. What, you thought Aragon was the king?

Frodo and Sam enter Mt. Doom, only to find out the ring's true purpose and activate Mordor's Death Star. Jackson is supposedly going to make a sequal called Lord of the Rings: Hobbits in Space.
