I was talking with a friend about U.S. holidays, and how one important day is being left off the calendar...
We have holidays for: Love (Valentine's Day) Parents (Mother's Day, Father's Day) Military Service (Memorial Day) Patriotism (Presidents' day, Fourth of July, Columbus Day) Work (Labor Day) Family & Community (Thanksgiving) Religious Holidays (Easter, Xmas) and Civil Rights (MLK Day)
but where is Money Day???
Some may argue that Xmas is Money Day... but there's still some holdouts -- there's still some people who just don't give enough respect to money at Xmas (blasphemers!), and so Xmas, sadly, does not count.
And some may argue that EVERY day is Money Day... but, true though this may be, Money deserves its own special holiday, to give it the proper respect that it so deserves.
So: I propose that, once a year, Money Day be observed. The actual date isn't important. (But: NOT April 15th -- this would make no sense, since on this day there are some poor souls who actually have to part with some of their money because they just can't find those handy loopholes to avoid paying taxes.)
Celebrate Money Day in your community!
In honor of Money Day: EVERYTHING is legal, as long as it's paid for with money. On Money Day, prostitution will be legal. So will contract killings, bribes, illegal campaign contributions, all drugs, CFCs & DDT & other banned pollutants, and all other activities that the law normally frowns upon.
Let's see star-studded Money Day spectaculars on TV: The parade of the Fortune 500 down Wall Street. The Jerry Lewis telethon to raise donations to increase salary and benefits for Congress members. Holiday cartoon specials in which the Grinch recovers his senses and loots Whoville anew.
Swimming pools will be filled with coins and dollar bills, so that everyone can be like Scrooge McDuck and enjoy the thrill of rolling around in our beloved currency.
An idle dream? No! We can make it happen! Write the President! Write your Congressperson! (And remember to include some loose bills.) Together, we can make Money Day happen!

Syn, there are a fair amount of people panhandling in downtown Chicago who seem to approach every day that way.
(My sympathies generally go to the poor - but a lot of the panhandlers downtown have probably been at it for years - I'm not real thrilled about the people who have chosen this way to make a living. Just wish there was a way to distinguish reliably between them and the people that are driven to it temporarily.)

Syn - I knew you were joking and not talking about panhandling. I should have put a smiley after my first statement.
The second part I attribute to the fact that it's late and my mind is wandering.
S'okay, though. It has a tag with my name, address and phone number on it so it can be returned to me if it wanders to far.

panhandling makes me so sad... Its just that there's GOT to be a better way of making money than standing there shaking a cup. I think i should seriously consider singing on the street because I need something to supliment my tiny income.
