Okay... lookin' for a little help here. Mack and I are jonesin' for a quality place to stay in NYC on the cheap... for, um... sightseeing purposes. Yeah. So, anyone have any ideas? So far everything's been in the $150 range or so for anything worth staying in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. PS - Yes, I know I live in NJ. Shh.

CT has quite an impressive emotional range... ...but not much info on NYC hotels, it seems. [ March 06, 2004, 08:44 PM: Message edited by: FlyingCow ]

I could help you with Chicago, but the closest I've been to New York is eating a bagel. (I know nothing about the safe areas) [ March 06, 2004, 09:03 PM: Message edited by: ClaudiaTherese ]

Off Soho looks nice. Airport transport service available, 24 hour exercise room, self-serve laundry room, near a bus line.http://www.offsoho.com/amenities.html Hardwood floors Fully equipped gourmet kitchen with microwave, cookware, flatware and utensils. Two private phones with voice mail and dedicated modem lines for easy internet access. Wireless High Speed Internet Access now available at Off Soho Suites Cafe!! Large marble baths with built-in hairdryers Air conditioning Satellite T.V. with movie channels The suite for 2 is $79/night, but you may have to share a kitchen if the next room is also taken. Separate sleeping areas, though. And the kitchen helps with keeping costs down. [ March 06, 2004, 09:11 PM: Message edited by: ClaudiaTherese ]

Mack, you don't need much room, unless you are intending to sleep a large dog between you. Plus, there is the time-honored trick of putting the twin beds side-by-side. Round the perimeter with a long strip of duct tape, and they will stay together. Sheesh. Way to appreciate my charity! [ March 06, 2004, 09:14 PM: Message edited by: ClaudiaTherese ]

Shoot. You can get the private room (for 4) with a queen bed for about $30 more.

Nix that $30 more, BTW. In March it would be more like $60 more. You realize, mack, that I'm going to take credit for this? You have no idea how hard I've been working for you behing the scenes.

D'ya have to stay IN NYC? I mean, because there are many decent hotels in areas...ahem...just a train ride away from NYC. ahem. Areas closer to a certain aggressively friendly dog. ahem. (yes, I'll be on AIM in a second, but I have to read CR a chapter before bedtime at ten p.m.)

No credit for you, CT! You did no work that I was consciously aware of. Olivet's stealing your thunder.

Hostels are about 25 bucks.. I know of one uptown, near central park but you wouldn't get much privacy there... And there are bugs... Small ones... But it's better than paying 500 bucks...

Okay, me and my girlfriend stayed in NYC over Valentine's Day/Presidents' Day weekend, and we found a nice cozy hotel called Arlington Hotel. It was about 80-100 bucjs a night, It is at Broadway and 25th St., right near the Flatiron Building, and an easy walk to the Empire State Building. Check out hotels.com. -Bok
