I just read through the thread on American Idol. I am still shaking my head over most of the realty shows. . . American Idol being, in my opinion, probably one of the best of the worst.
What do you think about women being chosen because of their flaws (ugliness?) and then hacked up and put back together by plastic surgeons so they can be in a beauty contest to find out which doctor did the best Frankenstein surgery? This is just wrong. It turns my insides. I don't have a problem with women (or men) wanting personally to get a little tuck here or there or new boobs, but to make it into a contest seems wrong. What do you think?

Utah, I so agree. It makes me ill. My daughter(age 9) is absolutely horrified, and has to leave the room when the commercial comes on. Most of the relaity tv shows(American Idol included) are really so bizarre. Why are we as a nation so fascinated? I know that when I flip by the channels, I am often drawn in, kind of like driving by an accident.

Reality shows are the worst thing to hit America since disco.
However, I find the sex-driven ones, like Temptation Island, to be much, much more offensive.
From the previews, it looks like it was the women's choice to get hacked up, not the producers. If some woman wants to get more lifts than Micheal Jackson, and nab her fifteen minutes of fame while she's at it, who am I to say no? Heck, if she's going to willingly do all that to her body just for the sake of looks, she better get a little fame out of it so she'll be able to regret just a little less in the future. And she will regret it.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't understand why everybody is up in a hubbub about this show.

The Swan is just a horribly conceived show. If you're going to do something in with this bad taste, you should go whole hog....
The Swan should be more like Iron Chef, with competing plastic surgeons rising up on elevators, scalpels displayed.
Of course, I think all reality shows are missing the one key ingredient from the only "reality" show I ever enjoyed: a giant gong to end the performance.

It's not just this show. This is just the one that got my goat at the moment (pun intended ) I totally agree with you that Temptation Island is extremely offensive. I even turn off the commercials on that one.
