OK, about 20 years ago I saw a film on Television in Austria. I think it was a French or Italian film, though.

Anybody think they can identify it for me?

The main premise is about a casino robbery; typical one where they put up a picture of the closed safe in front of the camera so the guards don't see...

{spoiler warning.. I can only remember the END of the film}

But there was an interesting twist in the end, where both crooks are trying to doublecross each other. As they drive the getaway car through the streets of the city (Monte Carlo?) they go through a very narrow archway at high speed. Just inches wider than the car. Something that they had practiced over and over. Of course the security guard's car just gets stuck in the archway.

One crook then forces the other out of the car at gunpoint (the doublecross) and drives away with the loot in a duffelbag in the back seat. The second crook turns back to the stuck security guards, who are trapped in their wedged-in vehicle, runs over the hood, windshield and roof of the car, pops the trunk and takes out an identical duffel bag (that really has the cash in it - he knew he would be double-crossed and stashed it in there when crook #1 was getting the getaway car) and runs away to safety. (Crook #1 ends up with a whole lot of money-sized bundles of newspaper.)

...

I'm pretty sure it does NOT contain the lines: "What does it do?" "Nothing, That's the beauty of it" [Smile]

Is it possible it is the original Italian Job? I've never seen it, but its just a thought.

The original Italian Job had Michael Caine. It involved gold bullion. The final scene is a real knee slapper involving a bus. "Bridger" funds the heist from prison. I don't see how it could be the original Italian Job.

The only other thing that I remember is that the two crooks may have been handcuffed together and escaped together.

(Kind'a like in O Brother Where Art Thou)
