My puppy needs a name.

He's a gorgeous, playful, smart black-and-white pointer puppy. I am currently calling him Oscar, since his registered (show) name is Caliban's Oscar Gone Wilde, but I don't want Oscar to be his permanent name. I'm looking for something creative and original, possibly with a literary theme, but I'm open to any suggestions. [Razz] I'm counting on you brilliant jatraqueros to come up with something... Mephistopheles and/or Superfly

Those are cool names and Frisco, his friend, and I thought of them, so you can't go wrong.

I've always been fond of the name "Mr. Snigglesworth." Somehow it just works. It's not literary, but if you'd like we can all pretend that it's in a epic poem somewhere. Happy naming!

I've always thought it's important to use a name that won't sound odd as one runs through the neighborhood sreaming the straying pup's name.

I like Wilder or maybe Ansel (Adams).

I would avoid names like: Tickle Me, Fifty-Bucks, Stick-'em-up and Again.

Sandor? Clegane?

We could fall back to using Grey Wind, Summer, Nymeria, Lady, Shaggydog, or Ghost, of course, but they lack the irony.

hmmm... perhaps we should have thought of this before naming our dog "Seven."

As for dog names, what about:
Frodo
Levin (one scene in Anna Karenina is described from the POV of a hunting dog)
Tommy

My friend and I tried to come up with the worst dog names, and I believe Steve and Ted topped the list. "Trogdor" and "Gozer the Gozarian" are also great dog names, the more pathetic the dog, the better.

At the time my parents met for the first time, my grandparents (both sets!) owned dogs named Pepper. Unfortunately my memories of those dogs have melded into one rather generic looking big black dog. For years I thought all black dogs were named Pepper.

Or if you disregard the literary reference, you could name him PHOTO. Introductions would be fun. This is our black and white Photo.

Avadaru,

Speaking of photo -- you need to POST one of this dog. Can't name a puppy without looking at him -- seeing what name he "looks" like...

Wow, thanks y'all!! This is a wonderful response!

There are some pictures of him in my foobonic album, but the site's not up yet I think....I'll post some links, and some better pictures, when it's running again.

I like Ansel, Jude, Judas, Levin, Phineas, and quite a few of the others, but I'm rather picky when it comes to names so it'll probably take me a little while to pick one. ^_^ Also, Text and Photo...rofl!!

Keep 'em coming, and thank you sooo much! [Wink] [Big Grin] [Smile]

I don't know how political you are Avadaru, but you can always name him after a politician. Just think about the possibilities:

"Bill Clinton, stop making a mess on the rug!"

"George W, don't drink out of the toilet!"

"You better not track that mud in here, Ahnold!"

Top 5 Names:

5) Egypt--because he leaves little pyramids all over the landscape

4) Sooner--because he's sooner leave little pyramids in the house as in the yard.

3) Fugly--but it would have to be a Freakin Ugly dog.

2) Rabid Killer-- Calling him at night will get you a lot of help. Calling him as your house is being robbed will save you a lot of valuables.

1) Dan Raven-- Its just a great name.
