I need some help, and this place looks the best place to ask. I kind of asked this in another thread, but didn't get much of an answer. It wasn't my thread anyway.
I have just finished writing a book. At the moment I am in the editing stage -- cleaning up the writing. Does anyone know where or how I can find an agent? Is there anyone who is an agent I can consult?
This is not a solicitation question. It is to help me find contact possibilities. From what I know, there are a few people at Hatrack who probably would like to know the same things. On the other hand, from what I know about the people at Hatrack, very few probably have actual experience of such things. But, I suppose, its worth a shot.
Statistics:
The book is science fiction (of course . It runs about 320 mss pages. I live in the Western United States and perfer to have someone from there, although not exclusively.

you could try sending queries to publishers. I read in one of OSC's writing tips that it is easier to get an agent if you have an offer already (and you get get a better rate)
It might be a good idea to go through all the uncle orson's writing class things, they can be helpful...some of them talk about that kind of thing

You will have better luck getting contact information on the Writer's Workshop. Try there, as previously suggested.

The Literary Market Guide has information on publishers and agents. Find it in your local library.
