New York Times article

Most of this I don't feel comfortable commenting on, I'm not well enough informed to present an opinion. One thing did stick out to me, though:

quote:
Mr. Bush has nominated Representative Porter J. Goss, Republican of Florida, to become director of central intelligence, and Mr. Goss's nomination is to be taken up next month by the Senate Intelligence Committee. Any new executive order would affect any acting or permanent intelligence chief.
Personally, I'm not sure I like the idea of a member of Congress also being the director of central intelligence. I think both jobs are full time jobs and it's foolish to expect one person to perform adequately at both. I also don't like the idea of someone with obvious political leanings as director of national intelligence, it would be an easy post to abuse even with the best of intentions. Does anyone else have strong feelings about this one way or the other?

President Bush signs executive orders strengthening powers of CIA director and establishing a new national counterterrorism center. Details soon.
(From CNN's breaking news)

Why do we need an executive order to do this? I thought that power was reserved for other, more immediate, needs..
