I didn't on Monday. I now have blisters the size of a nickel on my middle two fingertips on my left hand, and my right hand has bled three times so far for what appears to be no reason.
And that was only from half of my first run. Halfway down, one of my more experienced friends let me use his gloves, and I bought some mittens ($22, and those were the cheapest) at the lodge. I hate to imagine would could have become of my hands if I was gloveless the whole day.
I also wasn't expecting to be so sore in my shoulders the next day. I tried to play pool that night and it hurt like all get out.
But, holy crap on a stick, was it worth it! Snowboarding's the most fun I've had in a LONG time.

Still better than my sister. She broke her wrist on her first (and only, so far) snowboarding trip.

Yeah, my first (and thus far, only) snowboarding trip was 3 weeks ago. My shoulders were sore, but I slightly twisted my ankle, and that definitely hurt worse. Lots of fun, though.

Gloves are definately an absolute must for snowboarding.
I broke my arm on my first snowboarding adventure. When you fall, do not try to not land on your rear-end. I found out that a tail-bone is less likely to break than an arm.

True. The important part, if you don't want to land on your ass, is to make your hands into fists as you fall, and not lay them out flat. Fists make it so your arm doesn't torque as much.
Snowboarding uses a lot more muscles than many people think. In addition to your legs, you use your core (back and abs) and your arms and shoulders for balance.
I love boarding.
Too bad it's so ass-cold right now that the windchill kills any enjoyment of boarding.
