Today while driving down a road, I saw a sign saying:

"Meet Our Judge; Go Over 30"

Apparently, this is all part of the plan to get drivers to pay attention to road signs, by making them more memorable through humor.

A friend of mine took a picture of one in New York that said "Don't Even Think About Parking Here!"

There's one in my hometown that says "Caution: Mail Trucks."

There is also a sign in Green River, UT that simply displays a picture of a raging bull, horns down. I think it means that cattle can stampede and damage your car because it's such a hick town or something.

I saw this book of 365 weird things in America, and one of them was "Shades of Death Road." Apparently it's a real road, but I can't remember where, and crazy stuff happens there and it's haunted. I plan to visit someday soon.

On the way to Westerly, RI, there is a sign that says "Don't Even Think About Parking Here!", right on Rt.2.

The funny part of that is that it is right in the middle of a sinkhole on the side of the road that is about 30' across.

A sinkhole filled with water, and used as a pond.

I'm still fond of the Jamaican attempt at parking signs. They said...(Kinda paraphrasing, I don't remember the exact wording)

"No pahkin bitween dem signs, man!"

It was meant to help develop the Jamaican common dialect into a national language.

My mom has this picture of a road sign in Ireland that depicts a car driving off a pier. No text, just the car (it looks like a Gremlin) and the pier.

The sign seems like an observation, rather than a caution, since it is placed on a pier, and it doesn't have a "warning" feel about it.

A friend of mine used to live in Panama, and the street right before hers was called "Circle of Death". Apparently one of the most dangerous streets in the area... [Eek!]

I still like on I-80 in Nevada. The top sign says "Welcome to Independance Valley",sign under it says, "Prison Area Hitchhiking prohibited."

Also in Mexico I saw a sign that said (translation) "Obey traffic laws: next 11KM."

I guess after that we you don't have to obey them....

While recently in England, my sister and I saw a sign with an outline of what appeared to be an old lady and an old man, and the line, "Elderly People". We both burst out laughing when we saw it. I think it was meant to indicate that elderly people might be crossing the street nearby, but it seemed very random to us.

Also, in the neighborhood where I grew up, there was child who was deaf who was about my age. Well, the county very kindly put up signs warning drivers to watch out for him, cause he couldn't hear them. The signs said, SLOW Deaf Children at Play!

There used to be a two-sided evangelistic sign in a pasture south of my house.

One side read, "BEHOLD, the day of the LORD cometh quickly." It was old and faded.

The other side read, "The WAGES of sin is DEATH." I drove by one day to see that the ditch-burning had gotten out of control and the sign had caught fire. It was pretty dire to read that in flames.

The "car driving off a pier" sign is in southwest Ireland. I know, because I took the same picture. [Smile]

St. Clair Mo is famous for its two water towers. One is marked HOT the other COLD.

I once saw a hand painted sign along the highway. It read "Fire Works Next Exit." My thought, great. Show me an exit where fire doesn't work.

In Terry Pratchett's book Truckers, the gnomes are relieved when, driving a stolen truck, they pass a sign saying "Road Works Ahead." They initially find it puzzling, but then decide that it's meant to reassure drivers.

And this one:

Slow

These are quite common in England. With so many roads that go right up to the water, driving right up the edge before realising there is no more road is not unknown.

I have a book of silly road signs, but I don't have it here with me [Frown] .

I love the sign that is outside the Chilis pickup window near where I love. "Parking for pick up only. All others will be crushed and melted."

There was also the sign by a construction site at UF

"Do not enter under no circumstances."

hmm, so if I have a circumstance, does that mean I can enter?

We have one near our house, by a park with a big duck pond in it:

"Ducks Waddling", plus the picture of...ducks....okay, maybe that's not hugely funny. Just different.

There used to be a big sign that said "Woodstoves" right next to a burned down building, that it had obviously advertised.

Also, on a railroad bridge, there was a pedestrian service platform made of wood, and very old. Next to the platform was where the power company had hung high voltage transmission lines. A sign warning you not to stand too near the transmission lines said: "Warning, don't stand here." But the platform had completely burned away in a fire, so the sign appeared to be telling you not to stand on an open hole 200 feet above the river.

Further down the bridge, the entire surface of the bridge had been removed to prevent rubble from falling on the ground below. A sign simply said: "Stop"

A church in Jackson, Mississippi once had signs in its horseshoe drop-off that read "Thou Shalt Not Parketh Here". I thought it was great, but unfortunately they've changed it now.

We have one near us in our town that says in large print...

"Caution! This sign has really sharp edges, do not cut yourself!"

And in small print...

"And the bridge ahead is out."

That sign with the car falling off the pier would have been useful here.

I also remember seeing a sign that was one of those normal signs with a truck going down a steep hill but this one had over the truck "AHHHHHHH"

Then at a camp site was sign that read "Bob's pound:All adults fishing must be occompanied(bad spelling) by a child or senior citizen"

Not properly road signs, I suppose, but signs that can be seen from the road:

On the brick wall surrounding a church in Fresno:

"Please Don't Paint Our Church
God is Watching"

They'd been having a lot of problems with graffitti; apparently the people who had been leaving it there worry about God seeing them, because they don't seem to have a problem with graffitti any more.

And a sign out in front of a credit union, also in Fresno:

"ATM in Rear"

That must hurt. [Razz]

I collect funny signs, incidentally, so if anyone wants to email me pictures of funny signs, feel free. I have a picture of a Smoothie King sign that says "Christ has come / Amen / He would get a Smoothie too."
