Does anyone know how to do this? I need to get a screen shot of Sam from the Mount Doom sequence of ROTK, and I can't find it on the web. I have the DVDs, and I have a computer with Photoshop on it. Is there a way for me to get a screen shot from it?

"This will take a screenshot and put it on the clipboard."
Note that most modern software DVD players have been required by the federal government to work with Microsoft to eliminate this functionality. If you do this with a compliant modern player, you will get a big black screen where the movie would normally appear.

There's a free Windows DVD player that can do it, I'll have to look when I get home. I downloaded specifically for that purpose (Teres wanted to draw River from Firefly and that particular shot wasn't available).

That would be great, Chris. Thanks. I'll have to try this when I get home, but I can't report until tomorrow.

I got a screenshot using VLC Media Player. (Edit: though this isn't the player Chris is talking about, I assume.)
DVD programs--and Media Player as well--use the "Overlay" video mode, which you can't use PrintScreen on. You can use in-program capture programs, perhaps. (SnagIt, HyperSnapDX).
Some people have had success by turning off hardware acceleration completely. (Control Panel > Display > Settings > Troubleshoot)
If the DVD still displays after you do that, you should be able to use PrintScreen.

I use PowerDVD and that (when it works- I seem to have recently "lost" the menu) has a button that takes screenshots. Otherwise, you get a blank screen.
