... you put something in a safe place so you don't lose it and it won't get damaged or anything... But it's so safe, you forget where that is? Gaaah! So frustrating. Posts: 77 | Registered: Mar 2005

Yup, espescially when it is a thought tucked away. Then I forget it a little while later. Most things I lose though, I buy again if I can. I usually find them when I move. That would probably explain the 10 sets of nail clippers, the 5 irons, and the 30 or so rolls of film that I end up finding every now and then.

Hehe. Lost thoughts are a lot more annoying than lost items because you can't tire out your frustrations on moving heavy boxes and tearing down your house. (Well you can, but you can't even pretend to be productive, then).
One day I think I'm just gonna find a box of 'everything' I ever lost. My problem is, i think something is somewhere, but it's not where I think it is. Then I really can't explain it, other than the item walked to that box of lost stuff, just to annoy me.

I used to just....not look for it (whatever I was looking for). It will be found when you are not looking for it. There is no time stuff going along with this. However, in the past, when I was looking for something I would not find it. Depending on what it was would determmine how fast I found it when I wasn't on a search.
BTW: LEGOs are very easy to find when you are not looking for them. Posts: 2208 | Registered: Feb 2004

Yeah I know all too well about finding things when you're not looking for them.
I'll think to myself, 'ah, I was looking for this before. I'll put it here so I don't lose it again'. Then when I'm next looking for it, I'll look in the place that I found it, and forget the place where I put it. It's a vicious circle!
But now that my back is about to collapse and my house looks like a bomb hit it, I think I'll give it a rest. I was looking for a couple bookplates and a signed book I bought from hatrack for my sister. I guess I'll just have to order some more! You can never have too many OSC books!

This goes nicely with my memory/toybox simile. When you're young you have maybe 50-100 items in your toybox(memory) and searching for a particular item isn't that daunting a task. The older you get, the more crowded the toybox becomes. Now, when I'm searching for a particular item I have to sift through thousands and quite often I have difficulty locating the specific thing I'm searching for. As an added bonus/drawback I frequently find/am distracted by a previously sought after item or an almost forgotten one. My joy in rediscovering that item often chases the original intent of my search and I'm now back to searching the toybox for the memory of what I was searching for before I got sidetracked.
