I work as a contractor for a large company. My division looked at its 1Q numbers, and declared they were not good. They were ordered to cut all non-billable subcontractor spending. So, I'm being downsized. I don't know yet when my last day will be, but my team just confirmed it because I just got off a conference call where I was training them on the reports I was doing.
The good news is my supervisor is the kind of guy who looks out for his people. And he really likes the work I've been doing. He's already approached me about some possible openings in another division. So I might be able to transfer into another division, which is what I'm hoping for at the moment because I do NOT want to go on unemployment again. Keep your fingers crossed. I'll keep you posted.
Okay, so my last day on this position IS this Friday, like I expected. Silly Dennis meanders when he talks, so he thought he had made it clear, but to me it sounded like it was still just a possibility.
But, I will still have a job on Monday! *dances*
Dennis' counterpart, Ron, is retiring soon, so there will be a spot open in "the hub". And Ron and my dad go WAAAAAAAAAAAY back. Like, they were friends when my dad first started at Big Blue. So Ron pulled some strings with me, and I'm moving into the open spot. They're not really sure what I'll be doing yet, but it sounds like mostly I will be Dennis' backup.
Dennis said it wasn't just the history between my dad and Ron, though. They know I've really been working hard in this position, plus they like me because I'm always on time (well, nearly always) and follow the dress code and don't mess around. Plus I have a lot of good skills they can put to use. So, YAY!!!
