Anyone from Ireland here? Its just ive never met an Irish OSC fan. On second thought ive never met any OSC fan.

Jebus is Irish, but it's questionable whether you'd want to meet him. He can be cranky... (Just kidding, Jebus. But not really.)
I've thought about moving to Ireland for the next year or so, and my great great grandfather was an Irish shoemaker. Does that count?

Don't tell me that - I've been dreaming of it since I was 6! Well, I've decided on the Canadian East Coast for now instead anyway. Easier to plan in a hurry, not needing a work visa and so forth. I have some friends in Newry and Dublin there though, that I need to visit one of these days.

I want to go to the Gaeltacht. I also want to find a good Irish teacher here before I go because learning it from books is so bloody hard, but I can't have everything, it seems.

Almost no Irish people talk like they do in the films. Theres no "top o the mornin" or anything. I hate the stereotypical view of Irish people. It would be like the whole world thinking that every household in America was the Bradys.

All my trips to Ireland have begun and ended in Limerick. It's not boring at all. The hotel where I stay has added WiFi sometime during the last six months, and I made good use of it last week.
The folks in Limerick warned me to stay away from Dublin. They say the streets are too congested.
I've been to Kerry, Cork, Killarney, and Galway, but my favorite so far is Connemara. Nothing to do out there, but the scenery is fantastic. I love the smell of burning peat.
I found a place that makes awesome onion rings on my last trip. Now all I need is to find a good pizzaria.
I always see a lot of children in Limerick, something I don't see much in the States.

I think actually if I could only go one place in Ireland, it would have to be ye olde Teamhair, seat of high kings, and high places in my imagination. I'm an archaeologist. Ruins are all I need.

Ah, but I'm a vegan archaeologist. We're a rare breed. Hmm. Though, I could use the muskox bones I've got and carve a wing from one of them. Would a muskox wing suffice, do you think? A muskox wing would have to be awfully big though.
What I actually *do* need is one o' them Indiana Jones hats. I mean I've got my beat-up trowel, and my obligatory bits of old pottery and a stone tool I made myself. The hat is really all I'm missing now.

Oh, well, I simply figured that one's so obvious it needn't be stated. I mean, honestly, who here *doesn't* have a bullwhip, archaeologist or no? It's just only the archaeologists know how to use it properly, is all. There's a course we all take in university. Daredevil Bullwhipping 101. Fun course, but they do make you sign that pesky waiver...
Edit: Damien, that might be some of it. Familiarity breeds boredom. I'd certainly have said that my whole region of Ontario was boring when I was still there, having grown up in the town of 1000 people that was the "big town" in the county. Now it turns out everyone wants to go there for vacations because you can't go hiking and skiing and lakeside-cottage-ing in the city! Who knew?

and here I thought I was the only Irish on the board...
We just got back from a trip in June, and it was the hubby's first time. It was WONDERFUL. He took over 900 pictures in 10 days. We would move over there in a heartbeat. Small towns, in the cities, it's all great. I have family in Galway, Westport, Dublin proper and north and south of Dublin. (Aunts, uncles, cousins. Mom's from Dublin) Of course, I'd love to live in the West. The Burren is magical. The Aran Islands would be great, but I doubt they need my administrative skills! I could drive a buggy, maybe.
If you're bored, or you don't like it, then you have missed the spirit of the island and the people completely. The history alone is enough to keep me fascinated for a lifetime. The people by and large are fantastic. The scenery is breathtaking. The drivers are insane and we can't get back soon enough. The hubby and I really would move over in a heartbeat.
oh, and for what it's worth, my RL name is Sorcha and my b-day is March 17th. I'm a 1st generation American on my mom's side and an 8th generation Texan on my Dad's side - 4th generation Houstonian. Howzat for Irish-Texan?? Posts: 262 | Registered: Jun 2004
