My thoughts on "Event Horizon" can pretty much be summed up by adding to a bit from the preview:
"It's the Event Horizon. It was a scientific breakthrough- they managed to build a ship entirely out of spikes."
I know it got so much publicity that it built up it's own little hate-cult, and some people really can't stand shaky camera work, but the orignal "Blair Witch Project" is one of a very few movies that genuinely scared me, mostly because it was the rare horror movie that knew what you imagine is scarier than what you see. Avoid the sequel like the plague.
John Carpenter's "The Thing" was pretty tense, as well.

you want a "horror" movie that is hilarious in it's craptitude? Leprechaun 4: Leprechaun in Space. It has one of the *worst* excuses to get a breast shot in. The effects are terrible, but I laughed my ace off. Plus, it has Heidi from Tool-Time on Home Improvement!

I'd say the scariest movie I've ever seen was this one based on a true story movie about this anorexic girl who binged and purged. 'Scary' movies don't scare me, they make me laugh. But this movie was scary.

We have seen The Exorcist and Taboo since my last post in this thread.
The Exorcist deserves everything people say about it. Sustained creepy, followed by completely shocking... stuff. I can't help but think that if demons are real they'd be like that. I actually always thought they'd be more subtle, so it just shows how realistic this movie seemed in its depiction of the unreal.
Taboo was just crap. Absolutely nothing original about it. A monkey could have told you what was going to happen 45 minutes before it did. It wasn't even funny bad, because it took itself way too seriously.

aiua, tell me you're joking about that Argento movie. I could rant about it, but just suffice to say it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
I loved The Thing and Alien. My two favorite horror films.
Carpenter's Prince of Darkness was good but had plot holes. Terrific ending.
My favorite vampire film is Near Dark. A very scary, fun, and gory movie. The bar scene is priceless.
