Send out the healing vibes, folks! The good news is that the dr. doesn't expect it to become very serious since Space Space Baby is such a big healthy kiddo.

Oh no. I'll be praying for him for sure. It's always good if the doctor isn't worried - they tend to err on the side of caution.

His breathing sounds very "crunchy" today, if that makes sense. I can tell that he's breathing faster, but he's still very alert and eating well. When do I worry?

No nostril flaring. That's good, right? Weight is harder to judge. He hadn't gained any from his last check-up a month ago when he was weighed yesterday. The dr. wasn't worried; SSB is a pretty hefty 14 lbs. 10 oz. I feel like I'm raising a giant!
I know the "crunchy" breathing. Kinda rattly, raspy. Watch his chest, see if he is retracting (pulling skin in with inhalation) under his ribs or above. It means he is working too hard to breathe and not able to "move air" efficiently.
They can "deep suction" at the hospital, but they can't do that in our pediatric clinic.

Did you try steaming the baby? I always did this for my kid (and my ma did it for me) when he was congested. You take the baby into the bathroom, close the door and run the hot hot shower, so the room steams up. Then you hold Space Space Baby while he breathes in all that steamy air. It can really help to loosen congestion and easy up the crunchy breathing.
My baby loved it. He still does it when he has a cold, and he is 15 now (but, of course, he steams himself now).

You know, this is why I love all of you people. I came back expressly tonight to update because I knew you would be wondering how Space Space Baby is doing.
He's doing pretty good! We've still got the crunchy breathing, but he seemed a bit happier today and more smiley. He's not eating as much as I would like - down from 6 nursings per day to 4-5, so I'm hoping that will pick up tommorrow. He's coughing a lot more. Is that good you think, since he's maybe breaking up a lot of the junk in his lungs? We're keeping a very close eye on him and he goes back to the doc on Monday. Thanks for all the well wishes.

She was supposed to come home today, but she is still in the hospital, and may be there until Monday.
