Anyone know of a good magazine for Web Designers? One that will help you keep up with the technology? The only ones I have found so far are online. Call me old fashion but I think I would prefer a hard copy to read.
I will be thankful for any help with this. [Smile]

And I would be more than happy to know of any online ones. Call me a cheapskate if you like. [Smile]

"IT" is the best keyword to search for real magazines. From experience, it seems you're actually more likely to find a hard copy one than an online one that way.

Also, the words "international subscription" should guarantee you'll get at least a few hard copy, high quality magzines.

When you talk about "the technology," do you mean REAL technology? In other words, are you talking about Web programming and development, or are you just talking about design?

Here are some online ones.

http://www.digital-web.com/

http://www.alistapart.com/

http://www.devx.com/

http://webdevelopersjournal.com/

http://www.echoecho.com/dzine.htm

Haven't checked them thoroughly, but it may help out.

I've found this hard copy magazine but.. man do they really think webdesigners can afford that?!

This (e-marketing themed, but still good) and this (not just web development though?) sound like what you're looking for and are suspiciously cheap. Don't know if you've already looked at them...

Good professional web designers routinely make over $50k, so I'd say yes, they think web designers can afford that. The mean pay for a graphic designer of any sort was $41,910 in 2004, according to the bls.

[Razz] I probably wouldn't be considered a professional web designer. More like a free lancer, because I can't work Full Time in a company. I guess I remember something to the point that web designers working for big companies can make that much. [Smile]

cheiros, Wired does look like a cool magazine to look into. I'm not sure if there will be much webdesigning in it but I'm sure it will still be beneficial to have.

Tom I am talking about both design and development.

What platform are you using for your development? Are you a Visual Studio person, or are you mainly working in PHP or Ruby nowadays?

There are few really good magazines out there on web development, because web development changes so rapidly. The best general web development resource is http://oreillynet.com .

As for magazines for web design, join the ACM's SIGCHI ( http://www.acm.org/sigchi/ ) at a level that gets you the interactions magazine ( http://www.acm.org/interactions/ ) . It covers a lot more than web, but its the best popular publication out there about the professional practice of interaction design (of which web design is a major subset).
