I'm looking for a good firewall and/or virus software. Any favorites? I'm considering using ZoneAlarm...

Free is sometimes a good thing.

(Edited because free isn't really always a good thing.)

Amen to what Katie said!!!

[Wave]

I was getting ready to add you to the "whatever happened to..." thread. [Smile] Good to see you back.

Zone Alarm and AVG Antivirus are the free progams I use for firewall and antivirus. I never even used the 6 months free from Norton that I got when I bought my machine. Both work great for personal use.

As far as the AVG goes, by default it puts a footer in your email. You can go into the program options and turn that off though. (I recommend that)

In addition to being free, Zone Alarm is considered by many to be superior to many other commercially sold firewalls. I know it's better than Black Ice Defender, my firewall of a few years ago.

Hey guys. Thanks. [Smile] I got a laptop that's using primarily wireless connections and I really, really hate McAfee. I had to delete it right away. I went ahead and put on ZoneAlarm and AVG.

We decided to get rid of the Internet at our house, but we need to get online now more often because we're doing a lot of options trading. The result is that we spend a lot of time at local coffee shops and giggling as we pick up random wifi while driving through neighborhoods.

I use Anti-Vir. http://www.free-av.com/

It's kind of nice. Automatically updates everytime there's an update, it has a virus gaurd, and I've never had a problem with it. And it's free.

It's not free, but NOD32 is my favorite.

You're trading options? Isn't that a tad risky (to say the least)?

Silly. That's why you use risk capital. [Smile]

Of course, as with most things, the risk is reduced with more education. We are learning everything we can. We're doing well so far.

You have risk capital? Did you suddenly come into money?

We decided to use our tax return to increase our profitability. It was partly EIC (okay, mostly) but I figured what better way to spend the government's money than to make yourself wealthy enough that you don't qualify anymore?

Sure thing. How about I pay your hospital bills when social security runs out?

I seriously have no qualms about taking the EIC. I've got a good fifty to sixty years of paying ridiculous amounts of taxes ahead of me. It'll be more than paid in the end, trust me.

Just be careful. Options are really, really high on the risk scale. I know you are using money you don't necessarily need to live, but that doesn't mean you won't miss it when it's gone.

Honestly, I've heard a lot of people call options risky but it hasn't been like that for me. I mean, the option has the same opportunity to go up or down as the stock does, and although you can lose your entire investment if it goes down, a stop loss will prevent a complete loss. (I've got mine at fifty percent.) And if the stock goes up, the rate of return is much higher.

As of yet, I haven't used real money. I've been doing paper trades for practice. I'm getting very good at following the pattern of stock prices.

Does anyone here trade options or do covered calls?
