I have a composition due this afternoon in French, using the passe compose to describe my weekend. I asked the teacher and she said it'd be fine if I got it proofread, and as I don't know of anyone who speaks French IRL, Hatrack came to mind! I think it looks pretty good, but I'd appreciate any suggestions.

(Keep in mind this is French I)

Je me suis couché à 2 h. J'ai eu à dormir sur la canapé.
Jeudi, je me suis réveillé à 10 h.
Je me suis amusé.
Samedi j'ai regardé le football. Plus tard, je suis allé avec ma famille pour obtenir un sapin de Noël.
Dimanche, je suis allé à l'église avec ma famille. Après l'église, nous sommes rentrés et avons décoré l'arbre.
J'ai eu un très bon weekend.

I see some grammar mistakes and some style things I would change. I won't do grammar until you answer the question below lest I confuse you horribly. [Smile] As for style, you use 'avoir' a lot where other verbs would make more sense and be more specific.

Also, are you supposed to use ONLY passe' compose'? Have you learned l'imparfait yet?

No, we haven't learned l'imparfait yet. She mentioned it, but hasn't taught it to us. And yeah, I was searching for other verbs other than avoir, but none were coming to me. Reading it to myself in English it sounds like I'm a 4 year old or something, but my vocabulary just isn't large enough yet. Soon though ...

Okay. You did use l'imparfait but only with "etre", so I'll let the rest go even though it makes my spine crawl a little bit. [Wink]

Word choice.

You can use s'amuser as a verb here.

quote:
avec ma famille et mes amis. Mercredi, ma mère est arrivée à mon appartement. Elle nous a conduits à la maison aux DeLeon Springs. Plus tard ce jour,
Are you trying to say "that day"?

quote:
nous avons eu un bonfire chez moi. Avant que les gens sont arrivés, j'ai eu à nettoyer.
Wrong verb. Don't use "avoir" here.

quote:
Beaucoup de gens sont venus et ont eu beaucoup d'amusement.
see above.

quote:
Nous avons eu marshmallows et Mountain Dew.
Word choice. "avoir" is unspecific. You ate them, right? And you drank the Mt Dew? Ooh..two opportunities to show off your passe compose skillz. Also, there's a rule about a little word that has to go ahead of nouns in this context.

Tout le monde est resté jusqu' au minuit. J'ai été très fatigué. Je me suis couché à 2 h. J'ai eu à dormir sur la canapé.

Are you *sure* that your teacher doens't want you to use l'imparfait? Because here you are using the plus que parfait, which is usually a step beyond l'imparfait. I have ignored all incorrect passe compse useage in this edit so if you decide you should use imparfait...yeah.

quote:
C'était à ma maison de tantes.
Unless you have some sort of restaurant, or your house is made of aunts, you need to add something.

quote:
Nous sommes arrivés à mes tantes maison
WHOA. French doesn't have anything akin to the English 's possesive. Change this right now before I have a cardiac arrest [Wink]

quote:
à 3 h. Nous avons mangé à 4 h. J'ai joué des cartes
'Jouer de' isn't used for playing games.

quote:
avec mes soeurs. J'ai gagné. Jeudi était un bon jour.

Bon. That's what I got. I left you the actual corrections to make because then you learn [Big Grin] , and also so you check and make sure all my corrections are right. It's been about 6 months since I've done anything in French.

Whew! Thank you very much! I think I've made most of the corrections.

That one sentence with the l'imparfait or whatever ... well, I confess, I didn't have the slightest idea how to say what I wanted, so I put it into a French translator [Frown] . It looked so good that I decided to just keep it. I feel shamed. That was the only thing I did it with though!

Again, thank you very much for your help. This thread might get bumped in a few days and next semester [Wink] .
