Very few active and moderated forums have yet to criminalize the Mynah-brand 'parody thread' due to popular loathing.

::agrees wholeheartedly with KoM::

Folks, it just isn't *nearly* as clever as you think it is.

I must admit that I may conceivably have been the unwitting cause of this latest invasion, with my dobie of the "food you can't buy locally" thread. There hadn't been any for some time before that. But I had no idea I was going to awaken a monster of this magnitude. [Frown]

Dobie-ing comes back into vogue for a day or two when some forum luminary or another condescends to do it. Then we forget how it started and wonder why we were doing it.

It seems I must return on a regular basis and revive the lost art of the elusive "good dobie".

Oh come on, some of them really are quite clever. Those make it worth putting up with all the bad ones.

I don't mind one dobie per thread. Obviously, as I made the first dobie to the I am dying thread. Which I now regret, considering what happened next. I don't get, however, the need to fill the board with every possible variation of a dobie. They are funny to me when the spelling of the dobie is close enough to the original that you might click on it by accident thinking you are getting the original thread. They are not particularly funny to me when they're just rhymes. Or when there's a bajillion of them.

Dobies are like the flu. There is a season for it. Every thing is going just fine and then BAM, COUGH, FEVER, goota lie down. It spreads quickly and leaves quickly.

It is a phenomenon that exhausts itself and goes away until the next thread title that makes itself too easy a target pops up.

Just bear with this little season. It too shall pass.

Altho I have done many a bad dobies, the only dobie I am proud of is my phonography dobie on pornography.

Conversely, it's a lot more clever than you think it is. [Wink]

the word "dobie" just sounds stupid to me.

But I've only been here for a year now, so who am I to judge your little inside jokes?
