I think putting the word mayfly in the title is a bad idea it just encourages people to not obsessively click on the thread title and as such I think people should agree to stop putting it in the titles. I think retroactively referring to shortlived threads as mayflies is ok but intentionally making a thread a mayfly from the get go is just bad, bad, BAD.

You make a case for not putting mayfly in a thread title. . . by starting a thread with mayfly in the title.

Edited to add: I want a petition to replace [Eek!] with the shocked smiley from Mike's forum, more like this

We need an eyebrow wiggling smiley, because I do that a lot when I post, and I want to be sure people are getting that.

I dunno, the eye twitching kinda sells it to me.

I do wish we had a "mashing F5" graemlin, for threads where we wait impatiently to see if somebody else has responded to a thread.

Also our crying graemlin is not convincing enough for me.

Why is it bad to not encourage people to act obsessively?

I'm a little hazy on exactly why having the word "mayfly" in the subject would cause people to behave less obsessively, for that matter.
