I'm trying to find a polyphonic Star Trek ringtone ( for a Motorola W315) that is NON subscriber. I don't mind paying once, but I have no desire to pay a monthly fee when I have no plan to change my rintone monthly. Can anyone recommend a provider?

Is it possible to download your own MP3 or WAV, somehow, onto your cell? I don't see why it wouldn't be. I don't want what somebody wants to provide me; I want exactly what I want (which explains why I haven't loaded any).

I put a .wav on my phone to use as a ringtone. I have a removable memory card, but it's also possible to send a message to your phone (costs a few cents) over the internet with the sound attached.
My ringtone is from Star Trek. It's the Enterprise D doorchime! All I had to do was fine the soundfile online and then put it on my phone.
What carrier do you use?

CT, thanks, I'll check those out. I tried the mobilefun.com one yesterday but they are only supplying to UK numbers at the time, which really bummed me out.

hmm, I've always noticed them all to be in MID format when downloaded from the phone itself on the multiple phones I've had in the past...

Even if you can't put your own files on your phone, I think there are sites that will let you upload and edit a clip, then send it to yourself for a ringtone, for a small fee...

Okay, since this thread is here, I'll ask, too!
I recently bought a Nokia 6030 with a T-Mobile To Go plan. The last time I had a cell, they mostly just, you know, DIALED. No games or pretty screens or anything. We're talking years here, folks.
I got a To Go plan because I hardly ever talk on the phone at home, so I really don't think I need a minute plan. The phone's mostly for emergencies anyway, so a prepaid plan sounded perfect for me.
So... how do I figure out what kind of ringtones my phone can use, and then how do I get new ringtones on it? I did see a file labeled as an MP3 under the Ringtone section, so it apparently can handle MP3s. And I know I can download ringtones by surfing the t-zone from my phone, except they don't have what I'm looking for.
I want a Final Fantasy ringtone. Top choices are the Final Fantasy theme, the Chocobo theme (I'm partial to the version from FF7, but others would work), Fragments of Memories (from FF8), or Waltz for the Moon (also from FF8). Any suggestions how to find these and install them on my phone? Heck, I have a nice sounding midi of Fragments of Memories somewhere, which would work, if I could only figure out how to get it onto the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm really clueless when it comes to the newer cellphones; still learning all the ins and outs of this one.

I'll even venture to say that most of the new cellphones coming out these days support MP3s. In fact, the cellphone/camera/mp3 player combo is gaining popularity quite rapidly. It will likely be the norm by this time next year - much like the cameraphone is today.
For clarification/consolidation, here are the typical methods for getting ringtones on your phone:
1. Pay for your ringtone through a subscription service and have it sent to your phone. There are countless websites that offer this service, but I would recommend sticking with the more popular ones (perhaps your service provider has their own online store) to prevent getting scammed.
2. What ketchupqueen suggested - pay for an online service to edit your ringtone and send it to your phone.
3. Make your own ringtone and send it to your phone using one of a variety of methods. This is certainly the cheapest way to go (my personal method of choice), but it can get beyond complicated. Be prepared to feel very geeky. You'll need an audio editor and the ability to save the file in a format compatible with your phone (perhaps the same program to do both - I prefer Goldwave).
You'll then need to figure out what the best way is to transfer the ringtone to your phone. For me, bluetooth is most convenient. If your phone has a removable memory card (mine has a MicroSD), with the aid of an adapter you can pop that into your computer's memory card reader (assuming you have one, of course) and transfer the file that way. Some phones can receive emails with attachments, so you could try that as well. One final suggestion is to email the file to a friend that can get it onto his/her phone and have them send it to your phone via a multimedia message.
And now that I've totally exposed my inner geek to you all, I'm off to bed. I hope this was of some help to at least one of you, and I can go into more detail if necessary.

I will try and remember to fire up my old PC later, I have a page saved there that has just about any MIDI style ringtone you want, including various FF songs. I have the chocobo theme set for when my wife calls, the FFIV battle theme for everyone else I know, and the FFVII battle theme for unknown callers.

Odd, I have a fairly recent cell phone. (LG Chocolate)
All the tones on it are in MID format...
I know they support MP3 and WMA, since It's a music phone, I just didn't realize you use those file types for ringtones.

My ringtone is an MP3 of the close encounters theme. Except when I receive a call from home, at which point it's an MP3 section of "Our House," by Madness. And when Cor calls on her cell, at which point it's a segment from the theme music to Xena, in MP3.
I'm still trying to pick appropriate music for when my father calls.
