I like a lot of the same music, so here are a few recommendations on my mind because I just saw them live:

STS9 - Rocktronica, with more specific sound varying by album.

Blonde Redhead - Mellow rock sounds

M.I.A. - Sri Lankan girl with an LCD Soundsystem meets tribal beat backing sound.

Have you considered Snow Patrol?

They are a British electronic soft rock band. The melodies are bit more tight than say Interpol, they are a bit closer to Coldplay but still plenty of breathing room for the electronics to just glaze over everything.

If you like Kaiser Chiefs, you might like some of the stuff The Vines put out before they crashed.

Mr. Ozio would be in the Justica/Daftt punk category. Rjd2 is more rap oriented, but they have nice beats as well. What about The Shins?

I'm gonna go ahead and put in my vote for AFI and Blaqk Audio. With AFI, if you don't like one CD, or one song... listen to another one. Their sound changes with every record, and they're starting work on their next album next week.

I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business (yes long name, but it's a good sideproject of The Early November. Which reminds me..)
..The Early November
The Decemberists
Death Cab for Cutie
The Postal Service
Sufjan Stevens (i adore him)
Elliott Smith!

if you like Head Automatica, try out Glassjaw. Same singer, different style.

and.....my absolute favorite band that no one knows about: The Dear Hunter. I think they're a genius indie rock opera band [Embarrassed]

Judging from your list, it already looks like you're used to finding your music vs. music coming to you. Definitely capable of finding similar music through more efficient means than here.

But I have to definitely echo the Spoon recommendation, and the Sufjan Stevens one as well. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are a great band too. Iron and Wine's entire discography is fantastic.

Or I could just ignore your entire list and recommend Nickel Creek.

Honestly, based on that list, I think you should just buy every CD that gets a good review on Pitchfork.

(Seriously, though, I don't know how you can have the Fratellis and the Strokes on that list and not have the Killers and the Decemberists. You might also want to consider older bands/songwriters that passed through the sort of sensibility you appear to enjoy at one point along their continuum. Examples would include David Bowie, Tori Amos, Tom Waits, Tom Lehrer, They Might Be Giants, Ani DiFranco, Kate Bush, R.E.M., Radiohead, and possibly even better-quality '80s pop like Tears For Fears and Duran Duran. I'll also put in a plug for the 1900s, a decent band that includes two of my friends from high school.)

I KNOW THIS IS AN OLD THREAD AND THERE'S NO NEED FOR ANYONE ELSE TO RESPOND
unless you really want to post. [Wink] it would be sweet
I just went back and looked at this list and realized that I've listened to the music you fellow jatraqueros posted here accidentally because i completely forgot about this thread, and I really really like a lot of those bands, and a little less than two years later here are the bands that were reccomended that I think are awesome.

Snow Patrol
STS9
Spoon (they're amazing!)
Mr. Ozio
Rjd2
Death Cab for Cutie
The Postal Service
Sufjan Stevens
Junior Boys
Ladytron
Metric (their CD grow up and blow away is superb!)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs

A special thanks to TomDavidson to introducing me to pitchfork, I never really tried to find bands before I started this topic, i just kinda stumbled across music that i really liked.

And now a completely unnecessary post of more bands that weren't reccomended, but I like them so much i really want to post them (they're not in the original lists)

Thomas Dutroni
Dizzee Rascal
The Rifles
100 Resolutions
The Cat Empire
Digitalism
Lenka
Duffy
Adele
Fatboy Slim
Moby
Richard Ashcroft (I don't like the verve though)
Erol Alkan
Travis (My Fav band! they're like a combination of Spoon and keane on a couple of their cd's anyway)
Cut Copy
Calvin Harris
Regina Spector
Keane
New Young Pony club
Lily Allen
Vampire Weekend
The Wombats
K'naan
Mr Hudson & The Library (they're in the post from 2007 but i'm still obsessed)
Immortal Technique
Blur
Cake
Simian Mobile Disco
Lucky Soul
Chromeo
The Teenagers
Le Sport
Air
Just Jack
I'm From Barcelona
Architecture In Helsinki
The Flaming Lips

The list goes on and on but these are the important ones

sorry about this random old topic but I felt the need to make a follow up, just for my own memory. And if anyone does want to know about these bands I'm kind of a music junkie. (well a little bit)

How random! I was looking at your original list and mentally (I'm at work) shouted, "Rooney! I didn't know anyone else had heard of them. I also don't know what they came out with after I got that free little EP disc." Whatever became of them?

There are so many on that list I do know of. Sadly, though, I'm anti-Snow Patrol. Long story.

Here are a few possible additions (keeipng in mind you mentioned your list was not exhaustive):
Iron & Wine
Beirut
ANDREW BIRD!!! (honestly, don't know if he was up there, but I'm such a fan girl)
The Annuals
Portugal the Man
Besnard Lakes
DeVotchKa
Low
The New Pornographers
My Brightest Diamond
Primitive Radio Gods
Grand National
Patrick Watson
St. Vincent
The National
Grizzly Bear
The Maps
The One AM Radio
Get Well Soon
Fleet Foxes
The Shadow Puppets
Phantom Planet
The Envy Corps
The Silver Seas
The Snake The Cross The Crown
White Rabbits

Also not an exhaustive list. My apologies if there are any repeats.
