I love music, and I'm always looking for more great music. So I was thinking that perhaps we could create a compendium of great music.
To start off you post a link where people can go to listen to one song that you like. Then people can listen to it, comment and post a song that they like.
I really like the song Far Away vol. II as performed by Apocalyptica (I promise it's good)

I'm into trance music and think that this is a pretty good "introductory" song. Most of my friends don't like trance because they think the songs are too long and repetitive
I can post some of my favorites if people want. The posted song gets pretty good around 1:30 (ignore the cartoon).
EDIT: The song ("Adagio For Strings") was originally created by Samuel Barber. The linked song is a remix.

I like that! I listened to several Apocalyptica songs and liked them all. So, is there a musical genre this fits in? Rock music with classical instruments? I want more.

I don't know if that fits a specific genre. However, if you liked it alot I would recommend that you try it out with the music genome project at www.Pandora.com You can go to the site to see what that's all about.

Apocalyptica is pretty well-known for their Metallica covers. Judging by their name, that either is or was their whole reason for being. They're a novelty act.
Part of me thinks this thread is unnecessary, but I guess nobody has to click a link if they don't want to.
My contribution: "This Dress Looks Nice On You" by Sufjan Stevens. But I beg of you, don't watch the video. It's Xena with the music in the background, and it doesn't match, at all.
it's German techno. I really like the base music, and the lyrics have always given me this incredibly vivid image of a Puck-like pixie peering out through the foliage with a giggly and mischevous voice calling out at me...

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger is pretty good and is the first song I've bought by Daft Punk in a long time. I had a bad experience with the previous one. I bought "One More Time" at the recommendation of a friend and realized, to my extreme disappointment, that what I thought was the intro to the song was actually the main synthesizer melody (though it was extremely mediocre for forming the base of the entire song).

They started out as a Metallica cover band but they are definitely not a novelty act. They still do a lot of covers of various metal bands but they have really expanded their original material as well. They have several very solid albums out.

One of my friends in High school played cello (and was really good at it) and he told me about the group.
Another group that is very good is wolfmother.
And I'm pretty sure that every thread on this forum isn't necessary. But they are nice and if they interest you that's all the necessity I need.

I don't know what genre this is, but I love it to pieces. I caught the tail end of it on TV once, and looked it up.
I want to know the story behind the video, too, but I have a feeling there isn't one. The music is hypnotic.

that DJ Shadow mix has plenty to keep my interest. That collection seen in the video fascinates me and the intimacy one has with their collection. and for something completely different though you're in the center ring and their lines don't mean a thing The Delfonics are amazing. “Do you like this music?” asks the taxi driver from Kiss of the Dragon. This is how I found the Congos The door is locked Those falsetto voices... Yeah, Lacuna Coil. Have you heard The Gathering? Posts: 61 | Registered: Aug 2003
