i don't think you should have to post, as someone mentioned it only serves to bump particularly unsavory spam.

Oh, I am not sure a rule actually exists. I just remember a couple dozen spams ago someone mentioning that it should, iirc. I kind of agree with Porcelain, but it is just disappointing when you think you are first and someone already did it way before you.

Yes, and even though I think the whistle race is fun (and most likely healthy for the community), I do think I'd like it better if there weren't spam.

On Wikipedia, this kind of thing is called "troll-feeding." Making a game out of abuse encourages vandals and spammers to keep it up.

Yup. Moreover, since Pop edits out the content of the spamming thread, it's not like the spammers get any extra attention (not after the first few minutes, anyway).

One of the reasons to post that you whistled it is so that Pop doesn't get half a dozen whistles for each spam thread.
