There is a name for the literary gimmick where a person uses "and" repeatedly, when enumerating a list, instead of using a comma. For example, "He carried butter and books and chickens and guns and dignity and love"; instead of "He carried butter, books, chickens, guns, dignity, and love."

HA! (to Shigosei)

I haven't got the name for that, though. I think of little kids talking all breathlessly when I read or write with tons of ands, though...

I use it occasionally. It tends to draw focus to the list, because it is unusual, so it stands out as being important.

Incidentally, a good online resource for this stuff is here. I helped with it for a semester while I was doing my M.A., and I still keep it bookmarked for when I need the name of a particular rhetorical device.

Did you know conjunctivitis is the only disease with a bacterial, viral, AND genetic form?
