My mother in law says there is an independent trucker's strike due to start tomorrow.

We were out of toilet paper anyway, guess it's time to stock up.

I don't know. I read that the Teamsters contract is due to expire today but it was discussion on another board so I don't know how credible it is. I'm going shopping tonight anyway since we get paid today and we are really low on just about everything.

It wouldn't involve the Teamsters. I think that if this is real, it isn't being reported in the media because independent truckers are not organized. If the Teamsters were striking, it would be big news.

Snopes says that if anything happens, it'll be from independent truckers, not from the large-scale organizations.

In 1999, I was working as a secretary with a shipping company and there were similar calls to action (though it was over different issues). The bosses made contigency plans, but generally weren't concerned. Without union sponsorship, it is very hard to pull these things off. It has happened in the past, but generally, it isn't that likely.
