Brinestone woke me up this morning at 6:00 to tell me that she was pretty sure she was in labor. She'd been having contractions all night, and they started getting much stronger around 4:15. We called my brother to come over and watch Lego, and then we grabbed our bags and headed to the hospital.
She'd had a doctor's appointment yesterday, and she was dilated past 3 cm then. This morning she was past 4, so they said we were there to stay this time. Things moved along quite quickly this time all by themselves, whereas last time her water had broken but she wasn't really progressing until they put her on pitocin.
They broke her water, and then things moved really quickly. About 20 minutes of pushing later, we had ourselves a little boy. The doctor remarked on how huge he looked—sure enough, he weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds 3 ounces. Don't ask me how the two of us produced such a big baby.
The name we settled on is Daniel Porter, and he seems to be doing great. He's pretty calm and alert—he's hardly cried, and he likes to just look around at everything. Brinestone's doing pretty well, but obviously she's pretty exhausted and sore (she went without an epidural this time).
I'm sure we'll have more to say later, but I just wanted to share the good news with everyone.

Yay!! Congratulations to you both (and especially Brinestone - I'm still amazed at women who are able to forgo the epidural)!

On a side note...my mother had both my brother and I without an epidural. I can't remember how much we weighed, but I think I was like 11 pounds, or something really huge, I can't remember, and my brother was eight or nine.

Congratulations Jon Boy! You and the Mrs should catch dinner with me, and Mrs. BB, when you are all settled in with the baby.

Congrats! If I may ask, are you both particularly petite? I know I was a big infant (I think 8 pounds) but my family is full of big Germans.

Yeah, we're both pretty petite. Jon Boy's 6 feet tall but skinny, and I'm short and thin. I don't know where this big baby came from, and I don't know how I managed to push him out.

Wow. What a beautiful baby (understandable of course: look at the gorgeous parents!). Congrats to the whole family.

I don't often have the chance anymore to check Hatrack, but when I do it is really cool to see the first topic be about something this happy. Congratulations!

He's a cutie! I'm impressed with his nose as well. Mine was smushed at birth and still is a little on the smushed side.
