So, it's my husband's birthday, and I want to get him a GPS system. We'd be primarily using it for hiking and backpacking, as his iPhone works perfectly well for us for when traveling in the car. Necessary features would include good battery life, topo maps, waterproofing, and a decent memory and screen size. Oh, and since we'd be hiking with it, light weight and smaller size would also be great.
He's a gadget-y type of guy, so it doesn't need to be super simple to use, but he's also in product design, so bad design annoys him an above-average amount. A Garmin would be preferred, since we have some stock with them. I'm willing to go up to $500 if it's got amazing features, but would prefer to spend no more than $250 - $300.
Anyone have any suggestions or reviews? Ideas for features I should look for? Cool backpacking stories?
