I happened to be watching the Gene Kelly episode of the good ol' Muppet Show when they did their "Pigs in Space" sketch. In this particular episode, the Swinetrek flies to the End of the Universe, upon the reaching of which they are supposed to be given the Meaning and Purpose of Life. Link to segment here.

So, knowingly or unknowingly (and I'm presuming unknowingly, of course,) Star Trek V cribbed a plot device from Pigs in Space nine years later.
If there weren't already enough reasons to laugh at, not with, that movie.
