So... this was just about the weirdest episode of Bones ever. I don't even know what to say here. Did anyone else see it?

I'll try to avoid spoilers, but there may be some mild ones.
Yes, I saw it. I was really weirded out by the appearance of the baby (I don't watch it so I don't know his name). But, I was shocked by several things - the first being Brennan's declaration out of nowhere it seemed very out of character. Then, when she was so insistent upon taking Booth to the hospital it really surprised me. That episode took so many twists and turns I was also left not knowing for certain what to think.

But, if you really want to know... * * * * Spoilers * * * * So in a session with Dr. Sweets, Brennan declares she wants a baby and wants Booth to donate and be the father. Booth is very reluctant, but agrees. While at the clinic, he begins hallucinating that Stewie from Family Guy (I looked it up!) is talking to him and trying to talk him out of it.
He sees Stewie again, and talks to him in front of Brennan. Brennan freaks, reminds him he has seen Luke Robitai, and a ghost, and now Stewie and takes him to the hospital where it is revealed he has a brain tumor of a type usually benign. The episode ends as he is wheeled into surgery. * * * * Spoilers

Edited to indicate spoilers, so we can talk about everything that needs talking about. If you haven't seen the episode yet go watch it on Fox.com. (Note that if you HAVEN'T seen Bones before, this is a particularly bizarre place to start)
At first this episode was almost painful to watch with its awkwardness (I've been feeling that a lot lately, they've been playing Brennan's social ineptitude up lately for "comedic" effect and its mostly felt too contrived and awkward to actually be funny for me.) As the episode went on it became funnier and a little less extreme, but because they make Brennan act so completely out of touch so often I can't tell whether she's being funny or scary.
Towards the end of the episode, Brennan tells Booth that he's hallucinated three times in the past year. I remember the ghost of his army buddy. I can't remember the other time. Anyone know when that was?

I loved that episode. It was so sweet. Bones really loves booth. Everyone was like GET WITH THE PROGRAM, DUDE!

I did not like this episode. I don't like Stewie from The Family Guy, so that turned me off. But now we've got three shows that I watch (possibly more that I don't watch!) that have people hallucinating and having brain tumors: Bones, Grey's Anatomy, and House (well, House is hallucinating, though it's not a tumor). Why can't Hollywood do different things? They all start to copying each other, it seems. I like Bones, usually. But I don't like Stewie and I don't like the tumor stuff. Hmmphf.

I don't think this can really count as "copying each other" because the hallucination episodes were all actually scripted and filmed months ago. I did notice the same thing (lotsa hallucination going around, although I don't watch Grey's Anatomy) but I think it's less that everyone's copying each other and more like 6 months ago, all the writers said "Hey, what's a plot device we haven't seen in a while" and they they all used it at once.

I'm not sure I'd count the ghost as a hallucination since Brennan saw the army buddy at the end of the episode and just didn't know it. But when Booth started seeing Stewie, I did turn to my husband and comment that he sure seems to hallucinate a lot under stress. I'd guess the writers knew if they went that route one more time, they were going to have to explain it.
I also didn't mind since I don't watch Gray's and only caught one of the House episodes. (I was watching Chuck before.)

Although it did not involve a hallucination, the first time Booth actually exhibited really bizarre behavior is (was it last season?) when he took out his gun and shot several times the clown-head on the ice cream truck. He had to go in for psychiatric evaluation after that. But I get the feeling that this dude should have been taken off of active duty long ago.
But truthfully, in her own way, Brennan is just as nuts as he is.

Yeah, neither of the characters actually strike me as fit for federal authority. And the show's never really presented us with examples of Booth really being all that empathetic and/or talented. So far the only things we've seen are him picking up on stuff that any reasonable person would pick up on, and the only reason this seems impressive is because Brennan is a Straw Vulcan.

Exactly. She is supposed to be bright and not inflicted with any particular social disorder, yet she continues to be surprised and puzzled that her behaviour is not the norm.

I would consider Brennan inflicted with a social disorder, as far as social disorders are diagnosed in the world today, even if she does not officially have a label.
This sounds like an episode to skip.

It isn't so much that her behaviour is odd that bugs me; it is that she still has not figured out that people find her odd. It is like it has never happened to her before.
For example, Monk is quirky, but he gets that he is quirky. House is asocial but he decides to be that way and not only knows it but uses it. Various characters with Asperger Syndrome (Jerry on Boston Legal, Dr. Dixon on Grey's) get that they are dealing with a social disorder. Brennen is somehow still clueless.

It's my experience that geniuses sometimes refuse to accept that their quirkiness is quirky. They're so convinced that their behavior is appropriate, because their logic tells them so, that they have no room to consider that the one person marching out of step has a problem, even if it's possible that it's all the other marchers who are wrong.
That said, I think she has emotional problems that prevent her from being able to emote properly.

Oh I liked the episode, it was just really weird. (Most of what I DIDN'T like were things that have been happening all along, exaggerating Brennan's out of touch-ness).

All that has been said about the character of Brennan seems true. But I still like to watch her. Emily Deschanel has the most strikingly beautiful eyes. Her younger sister Zoe ("DG" in the recent TV miniseries Tin Man) has similarly striking eyes. That's how I first realized they were sisters.

What a cool finale that was. And it was so nice to see Zach again. Aw, I miss him, fruitcake that he is. He's like all the social disfunction of Brennan taken to the ultimate extreme.

It is Thursday where I am. And Bones is supposed to air tonight.
I am going to avoid going too far west today lest the Evanston/Skokie border is a time warp. Time travel makes my head hurt.

South and west then. I am in very east Evanston. I think that there was some occasion years ago where I could have gotten to meet you if I could have gotten myself to Skokie in time. I don't remember what exactly, but getting anywhere west in a hurry is tricky without a car.
I didn't know T:man was by us. Did I?

I remember him mentioning it very early on, but I don't know if you were reading that.

What--no comments about last night's season finalé? It was a little amusing to see all the characters recast into nightclub equivalent roles, but it was obvious from the outset what was going on, if you remembered that last week ended with Booth being wheeled in for brain surgery. Of course Sweets would be the bartender. Was that last line from Booth to Brennan on his hospital bed meant to be a cliffhanger, indicating that maybe he has amnesia? In my opinion, it was not a very good episode. It was too "cute." I like to see Brennan doing her forensic anthropology gig. That is what the show is supposed to be about.

I totally agree. I did not like the finale. Too gimmicky...they just used the premise as a vehicle to show Booth and Brennan together.
If it is a cliffhanger then it's lame, and honestly, beneath the writers in my opinion. The whole thing smacked of a soap opera to me (and I don't even watch soap operas, which means it was a cliche soap-operaesque type show).
Agreed that Brennan in any role but her forensic anthropologist one is just a let-down. There were some cute and funny moments like the Gormagon comment by Sweets and Nigel-Murray is always delightful. Wendell as the bouncer was also great. But, about 10 minutes into the episode I was impatiently checking the time remaining on my DVR recording to see how much more I had to sit through. They could have ended it much, much earlier and then just given us more of the aftermath of Booth waking up.
All in all, this 4th season has been a might disappointing. I hope things get better next year.

Yeah, I am noticing a lot of fake get togethers happening lately. It's weird how media does that a lot. A Bug's Life and Antz came out within a year of each other, I think Shark Tale and Finding Nemo too, Madagascar and Into the Wild, and now we have a year where all the sci-fi stories are about Time Travel and all the episodic shows seem to be having illusory sex.

That said... in a vacuum, I thought the episode was pretty good but not exceptional. I was really hoping Zach to be back by the end of the season. (You know, for real).

I actually can't see Zach coming back. Seriously, who'd hire a guy to solve murders that took the rap for a murder he didn't commit? That's just asking for trouble.
I actually liked the gang outside the lab filtered through Booth's perceptions of them. I thought it was hilarious. And since the only way I can get Booth and Brennan together without ending the show is in someone's imagniation, it was nice to see.
