Instead of looking for and updating the old thread, I thought I would just start a new one to share the news with you all.
I had my kidney surgery on Wednesday, and it was a success. The doctor removed the tip of my 11th rib and the cancerous tumor, and so believes I am essentially cancer free.
What I'm not, however, is pain free. Thank goodness for percocet. I'm home from the hospital, and the hardest things I have to do are get in and out of bed and go to the bathroom. All things considered, that's a pain but it isn't too bad.
Anyway, I had just realized I forgot to let Hatrack know I wasn't dead. Doubt anyone remembered I was going under the knife anyway. But just in case anyone was worried, you'll have to work harder to get rid of me next time!

If you put the tip of your rib under your pillow maybe God will use it to make a really small woman.

Congrats, Javert. Glad you're doing well, and pretty darn upbeat for a few days after major surgery. Keep us updated as you recover, eh?

I do swear at the end (the b-word), so I apologize for that. I blame my drug- and exhaustion-addled mind.

Great news, Javert! I hope your recovery is quick and... well you've already said it won't be painless, so lets go with less painful

Just watched your video. I commiserate with you on the 'not wanting to bend' feelings. When I had my appendix removed, getting in and out of bed was quite painful. Of course, that was a lot less invasive and left a much smaller scar than your surgery.

Sorry about the pain, Javert. Just try to remember it's temporary, and will be totally worth it. I'm very glad the surgery went well! (But seriously I'm very sorry about the pain.)

Turns out I had renal cell carcinoma. But it was completely located in the tumor, which was only 2.5 cm and completely removed. The Doc says I should have a 95-100% chance of never having it again. But we're keeping our eyes on it just in case.
And the pain is all but gone! Going back to work on Monday.

Fantastic news, lets hope you did indeed vanquish cancer. Remember Javert, "No Quarter!"
