I'm throwing a halloween party. The theme this year is 80's. You have to come as you favorite 80's icon, character, personality, star, fad, etc... I'm looking for ideas for a female friend of mine. We want something that isn't the obvious madonna, valley girl type stuff. A couple leading thoughts right now are coming as a slinky, a glowworm, or Lydia from Beetlejuice. Does anyone else have any ideas?

BTW... I'll be going as Super Mario this year. Not too original, but still a lot of fun.

If you're going as Super Mario, she should go as Princess Peach. [Smile]

I do like the Addicted to Love girl idea. Simple but recognizable.

I went as one of the gang from Devo a few years ago, and I was surprised how few people recognized me. I mean, who else wore that hat? How do you not look at the red ziggurat hat and say "Devo"?

If she could get a few of her friends to dress up as the same thing, it would be even better.

All good ideas. We've been through a number of them and eliminated many of them for one reason or another.

Some of the ideas we'vee kicked around...

Beg/Kelly Bundy
Punky Brewster
Hey Mickey (the video)
Richard Simmons
Cyndi Lauper
Flashdance lady
Any of the Saved by the Bell Characters
April (TMNT)
Mama (Mama's Family)
A designing Woman
Carla from Cheers
Winnie Cooper
Lydia from Beetlejuice
Strawberry Shortcake
RAinbow Bright
A slinky
Simon Says
A Glow Worm
Cabbage Patch Kid
Teddy Ruxpin
Mrs. Potato Head
Speak and Say
A koosh Ball

As for her going as Princess Peach, she can't. My finace is going as her. We (my fiance and I) do the couple costumes. Last year I was papa smurf and she went as smurfette. Yep, we're cool like that.

Good ones! I thought about Yori, but couldn't remember her name and didn't have time to look it up.

Being a gelfling also occurred to me. Or if she's up for the challenge, she could go as a skexis or Aughra.

I've been trying to convince my friends to do this one with me for years.

I think I need new friends.

My lurker sister urged me to suggest going either as someone 80 years old or from the 1880's.
