I have decided to join a global movement that is bringing much needed attention to cancers that affect men. I’m doing this by growing a Moustache this Movember, the month formerly known as November. My commitment is to grow a moustache all November to change the face of men’s health and I want you to join me.
The funds we raise during our Moustache journey go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LIVESTRONG).
What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and that testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 18-35. Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved.
All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund: • The LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40. • Research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.

yea, the name is pretty bad but the cause is a good one. I usually don't get very involved with stuff like this but this particular cause and, more specifically, the method of fund raising really spoke to me. I have a weird facial hair obsession. I jump at any excuse to grow a rediculous stache.
plus my friend and I have both created teams and are trying to out do one another. He is an YMCA coordinator and I'm a teacher. We're seeing who has the stronger pool of people to pull from. The competetive nature of us both makes it a lot of fun.
The other really entertaining part has been the play on words. Coming up with team names and slogans has been funny.
my team is the Mo-mens and we're spreading the good word about mens health.

Funny, but true. Don't get me wrong, I think people should be aware of breast cancer and should try to prevent it, however - it has almost become as if it is the ONLY cancer out there.
When I was in chemo, I sat there and received chemotherapy next to many women suffering from breast cancer. I saw the nurses present tons of programs to them - one was free makeup and styling tips from a spa, coupons and gift cerificates from all sorts of businesses, etc. None of it was ever offered or given to anyone suffering from a type of cancer other than breast cancer. Even the blankets they gave us when we were cold had pink ribbons on them.
There ARE other cancers in the world that both men and women suffer from. I do think breast cancer needs to have attention drawn to it, I do. But, it has almost become a running joke among cancer sufferers that no one even believes it's possible to have cancer that isn't breast cancer. When I tell people I'm a cancer survivor, usually the first reaction is for them to tell me all about family or friends who also had breast cancer - they assume that's what I had without asking.
