Link.

It always fascinates me when people abruptly change their minds on things like this. I wonder what their thought process is.

It doesn't sound like the guy abruptly changed his mind. He waited for the press to research and contradict the claim, then realized that he was basing his own claim on rumors he'd heard in the office.

Sounds to me like he repeated a rumor.

Well! I'm sure the news agencies that reported the earlier story will take as much time and effort to make sure this new information is duly reported.

(*sobs bitterly*)

Better late than never. I wonder if the right-wing news outlets will even bother to touch this.

My guess is everyone will treat it as old news. Terror is a backseat concern to the economy right now. No one wants to dig up old demons when we have new ones staring us in the face.

There isn't much mystery here. Facts have been revealed that prove his original statements were untrue. What options does one have when caught in a lie? He either has to admit he was lying the first time around or claim he was just a victim of the lie himself.

The only question left is why anyone would believe this excuse.

He made the original comments claiming to be an insider who knew what was really going on. That also appears to be the central premise of his book. He doesn't seem to realize he is caught between a rock and a hard place. Either he's lied about what happens at the CIA or he's lied about having an true insiders view. Either way, his book has zero credibility.

Of course I suspect a good fractions of Americans will believe him any way.

Or, since this is the CIA we're talking about, they're lying now to discredit him. It's unlikely, but can't be discounted as a possibility.

I feel completely confident in discount that possibility since Kiriakau hasn't even hinted at it even though it would put him in a far more favorable light than the route he's chosen.
