That's what they call it at Ornery. We don't stay within the bounds of this forum's title, unless you say that everything is to a degree "culture".

Because this forum existed before Ornery did.

This is not a justification of the name, but an explanation. I do like this name, though, as it provides suggestions for agreeable topics. Every little bit helps, maybe.

I actually kinda like the name as well for the reasons Katharina listed. It also makes the forum more unique than every other site with a "General Comments" subforum.

It really ought to be titled "Religion, politics, and mayflies" in order to reflect the content. But I agree with kat and Raymond. [Smile]

Okay. I think the title sounds pretentious, as if we're too sophisticated just to talk about about whatever's on our minds; but I guess I'm in the minority.

Was there a time when people stuck more closely to the subjects in the title?

I know it sounds a bit obscure, but in Hatrack, that's how conditions were. The threads would never fall downhill as long as people cared some still. After three posts, the monthly troll would disappear.

In short, there was simply not a more congenial spot for happily-forever-posting than here in Camelot.

After thinking about the actual name of this side of the forum I'd like to comment that we haven't had enough food threads of lately.

In all fairness, Clive has created several threads where food is discussed extensively.
