If you were to actively worship a comic book hero instead of God, what hero and why?

Note: worshipping Aquaman would probably end up as one of those suicide cults...

I like how much sense this doesn't make, out of context.

Batman, probably, due to being awesome in pretty much every conceivable way, as opposed to most heroes who are only awesome in a few. In addition, for showcasing the importance of both intellect AND effort to achieve your goals.

I like the topic but I've still got hangups about it. What are the reasons we are worshiping them? If we are just admiring so intensely the things that make them them, what's the difference between your question and, "What's your favorite super hero?"

I mean we *could* worship Superman, but why? Do we obtain some sort of benefit for doing so? Do we owe him our allegiance because he's done so many great things?

I've always seen superheroes as sort of our version of the Greek pantheon. Are these super heroes going to be mad if we don't worship them? Will the super hero we worship show up and help us out in some specific way at least once if we spend our lifetimes asking for his/her assistance?

... Im gonna put you down for Superman, because he is an all powerful a-moral being who watches over mankind out of pity and not a pursuit of justice. Lets talk tights not theology.

Seems like a strange request per your thread title. I'll leave your thread alone since I'm messing it up for you.

Yeah but in a more tongue-in-cheek manner, questioning wether or not War Machine will show up and help me himself sometime in my life makes me question the same of Jesus. And I was hoping for a much lighter conversation.

That certainly wasn't where I was trying to go. I was just asking what sorts of things might we expect would come with that worship.

Your joke about the aqua-man cult was much in the same vein I was going for.

Ah, sorry to interupt. But we should probably avoid Thor as a "fake" symbol of worship... wait does anyone even pray to him anymore?

I'll go ahead and say Thor, though I don't actually know much about him. Just that, you know, he's a deity. [Wink]

Why don't you go ask your precious Batman why he lets bad things like this happen?

I'd say Thor--um--been there, done that--nevermind.

Storm--oh--done that in the comic books too.

How about Wonder Woman--nah, Linda Carter hasn't aged well.

Power Girl--or is that worshiping her costume--or lack there of?

I'll have to think about this one.

Im leaning toward The Question, simply because I think his religion would simply be the chaos theory.

Odin seems like a god choice, but I might pick Dr. Doom, or Galactus, to beseech them not to destroy me.

Can you imagince what a meeting of Black Canary fanatics would be like? just a bunch of people yelling at each other. Or the acolytes of the Lantern Corp arguing as to who is the one true Green Lantern

I would relate believers in Hawk and Dove to those people at the swapmeet who sell crystals that can heal you.

Spiderman... comes off as a bit of an emo in the closet, cant really see a religion based on that.
