I literally just finished watching this at NBC.com. It was so great. I've only seen a few episodes of season 2 but they all seem fantastic.

Did... did you watch the episode? I don't want to post spoilers, but it's in the episode.

That was an amazing episode. Really only the zombie episode and the lets face it perfect episode "modern warfare" were better.

I really love that they treated the game as a way to help someone rather than the usual "it's crazy/ satans tool" way the media usually treats it.

My favorite part of D&D is heckling the players. So this episode was perfect for me. [Wink]

Someday I'd like to see a show that's mostly a normal sitcom, but in which the characters play D&D in a semiregular basis.

Do they do that? I never got more than a few episodes into that. Is it treated with any depth or just "oh we went and played D&D last weekend"

I'm hardly a D&D expert, and they don't actually call it that, IIRC. But RPGs of various types come up frequently.

And you should watch BBT. They have the occasional stinker episode, but most are really quite good. (Even if they get almost EVERY detail about Caltech wrong, wrong, wrong.)

My favorite part of the episode was when Annie, playing "Hector the Well Endowed" seduced the female elf. Not being able to hear her but reading her lips and seeing the hand gestures just made me love it even more.

Tony taking notes made the scene even funnier.

That bothered me as well, but ultimately I figured they had 20 minutes to introduce a game to a wider audience and tell a story while keeping a good pace. It would have taken precious time to "teach" the players how/what/when to roll and it might have confused the audience.

They emphasized role playing over mechanics, and it worked for this episode in my opinion.

I was disappointed, but I saw it as forgivable.

BTW, has anyone played Pathfinder? My group is thinking of switching. We are all against 4.0 and 3.5 books are not accessible. We are thinking it is playable with our current books like Complete Warrior, Divine, and Arcane.

Depends heavily on what your group's preferred style of game is, in my opinion. What do you guys like?

Great ep!

I once had a GM who printed out a huge list of random numbers (between 1 and 20), then just crossed them out in order instead of rolling dice.

He had us focus on our role-playing by completely removing game mechanics from the players. 100% disastrous. Game broke up faster then a kobold in elven boots of speed!

Rolling dice is fun!

It was fairly amusing to me, and I've never seen either of the referenced films.

Also I was particular impressed with Abed's acting. Watching him transition in the middle was really fun.

I missed the whole D&D experience, but last week Community found my sweet spot. I think their plan is to make a segment for every nerd in the world.

Community vs. Kubrick
