I've been thinking lately with all the government talking that takes place here, WHAT IF there was a website based government forum, for use by anyone that's a citizen of the US....
I think it's a good idea, for both education and a means of being informed by an elected official themselves, instead of news sources which shows bias...
I even have a basic setup, all users have to use there real names, and in order to register you must proved a significant amount of personal information, like your SSN, and whatever is on a greencard for those that don't have an SSN... (this is already being done in Korea, and yes there is probably going to be major security issues)
Built in age limit for discussion, for those under 18, they would only be allowed to read the main sections (but will have a sub-section for those who cannot yet vote), and take votes which allow for those under 18 to participate in.
Main sections would include Presidential, Congress, supreme court.... you get it...ya? besides the president catagory, the others would be divided by the ideals like Republican, Democrat,Tea-Party, and the-like....
Each person recieves a title relivent to their position on the forum like me I would be "Voter" Obama would be "President", for people who were more than just voters get former as a prefix like Bush would have "Former President" those with former titles may make topics/polls in what catagory they were formerly part of....

there's just so much information I could add, but the gist is, large scale US forum!

Not into the whole personal info part. I got into an argument on another forum with a guy about job opportunities for those without a college education. To support my argument, I provided info about my own job and background. He concluded that I was not qualified for that job and so must have lied to get it. He actually tracked me down and reported me to my boss (a state police sergeant) who just laughed at him. I then removed my full name from my signature on that site.

Personal info is to verify you as you, it's not as if the government doesn't have it already.. Wing I wasn't entirely complete with how it should be set up the general outline was drawn XD Things that would be available to see I think would be your name, state, and position a voter or candidate.. for those with same names a number would be added to the name, and of course real-world-laws would govern the forum at all times.
The forum would be far too complex for me to make, I'm just putting the idea out there 8D --- O-o So that guy...wow......just wow....

That's all it would take. Political discussions can get pretty heated. One good argument and the next thing you know there is a murder report on the news. A guy tracked me down and essentially attacked me (though not physically) just from my name and occupation.
Verifying someone is who they say they are can be done without making that info public for all to see.

You have the right to bear arms, but that doesn't prevent someone from owning a high-powered-sniper-riffle so that won't work.....
Someone getting killed over a political debate, at least it would be easy to tell who did it by what was posted on the forum, and since everyone has to use their real names and identities, it would be kinda to get away with it .____.

Misha McBride already has a post directly detailing a great set of reasons why the lolpersonalinfo part of this is just a horrid idea. Especially when it's so easy for girls to get creepstarred and stalked by our quite wonderful magnificent internet and its exciting boys.

From my name, you can with no effort get my address- jut type my name into google and it comes up with like white pages and there is only me. So, far, I have not been able to identify anyone with my combination of first and last name in the world at any time. From first name alone, you can limit to 9 people based on my research. So, am I comfortable revealing my name in a public forum with all my controversial positions? Not really.

I think this is going to be interesting to watch anyways.
An increasing number of newspapers here are deploying some sort of Facebook-powered commenting system. The rationale is that it will cut down on abusive comments, which in fairness, it has a bit. But not as much as I would have expected.
I don't think people have truly considered the consequences of flaming each other and whatnot under their real names.
