It really is. I am not fond of cynicism. I wonder why it is when folks saying being a man means being like THIS it's usually a great deal of stuff I don't like. Though I do love cars and motorcycles and big burly dogs, i do love men who can be all kind, mushy and silly over cute animals. It's endearing! Plus it means they will be gentle towards babies and that's so attractive.

Overdone manipulative cuteness. Actual puppies, kittens, etc. that I encounter in everyday life inspire no such nausea in me - I might feel a small appreciation for the cuteness (and more so for their tastiness, carnivore that I am), but if anyone goes "awwww, it's so cute!!!!" it ruins the moment for me.
Really, though, this is beside the point. I take umbrage at Syn's implication that a man's appreciation for over-the-top cuteness is somehow correlated with his ability to care for a baby, which I find ridiculous.

I exaggerate slightly, but you got to admit, at least to me, a man that can appreciate cute things such as bunnies and wolf spiders is oddly endearing to me. It's kind of on my criteria list. A guy who loves animals!

I basically treat my puppy like a baby already, because he is the bestest tallie pookie poo, and the boodliest moose. Excepting that: puppy is actually pretty good at being useful and not making horridly placed messes and organic output, so, technically, puppy may have either made me a better parent via being a lens for my appreciation for cuteness, or has made me a horrible parent in advance due to how utterly disappointed I am in how my baby will have been at this life thing for a year and a half and STILL can't be arsed to learn go get the paper every morning if it wants to get fed.

I think wolf spiders are the bomb. As long as they're no bigger than my pinkie nail. Then they become blights on the fabric of the universe the way all other spiders are.
I coo over babies with the best of them but I haven't seen one episode of My Little Pony and have no plans to. Usually that's because I'm too busy reading Motor Trend or planning my next BASE jump.

If you want to talk about cute bugs, though, lets talk about centipedes. One night, camped under some trees, I woke to the feeling of something cold and evil crawling across my leg. Terrified, I glanced over and watched, in the shadow the moonlight cast coming in from the unzipped entrance of the tent, as it reared up on it's hind legs a full 10 inches and hissed, clacking its giant mandibles together. I screamed like a little girl while my tentmate grabbed the flashlight and struck it with the butt of his rifle - 10 times with brutal smashes strong enough to crush a man's skull - and yet somehow it lived and still came at me. I put on thick gloves and threw it as far away from me as possible, but I know it's still out there, somewhere, nursing it's remaining legs, waiting for the day I let down my guard to consume me.
I still have nightmares, sometimes.
