What makes you leap to the conclusion that it's spam? I'm sure someone named Jamlious is a huge Orson Scott Card fan, and the fact that his first post was about a totally sweet cell phone jammer was the type of coincidence we're all going to laugh about in 10 years when he's become a valued member of the community.
As a token of good faith, I'm going to start a Facebook group to get Jamlious an Executive Producer credit on the Ender's Game movie. Who's with me?

I do not get the obsession over that book. I have completely avoided reading it because the description doesn't sound like something I would WANT to read. But, I'm almost tempted to read it just to see what the fuss ia about.

I guess the feminist movement fought hard for women to have the right to write and read books about the joys of their man beating them?

At least Lifetime has a message that it is wrong. These books aren't man bashing like those Lifetime movies. It is BDSM, the woman enjoys being punished by her man.
I have no problem with that. I'm all about two consenting adults doing whatever they want. I am just amazed by how many women enjoy reading about it.

Two of my friends work at Fascinations and thought it was absolutely adorable that a book had come out that had introduced so many vanilla people to the world of kink and happy fun BSDM times. Then one of them read the book and it became less adorable and was more like 'holy mother of psychosexual complexes batman' but hey whatever sales of whips and crops and blindfolds and suede wrist cuffs are up.

It's warmed-over Twilight with pseudo-BDSM. Not worth reading.

I've been hearing my female friends talk about it on Facebook for weeks. They seem split down the middle. Half think it's hot and awesome, the other half think it's disturbing and awful.

I've known a few people who were big into BDSM. Within that limited experience, I heard things which corroborate the notion that BDSM is actually about control, not giving up control. Sort of like: you find ways of controlling your environment so utterly that someone beating you is actually all part of your control mechanisms. You are doing these things to yourself, sort of deal.
I don't know *much much* I believe that, but the idea that giving up control as arousing to these individuals seemed unlikely. They weren't the sort of people who could let you change the volume on their stereo.

The mechanisms and appeal of power exchange couldn't be described as solely one or the other; it's usually both. If anything, it's mostly about trust. "topping from the bottom" is just a trait inherent to some submissives' relation to their desires, others dislike the idea inherently and never engage in it.
