That is pretty much what is going through my head at the moment. Few of my favorite artists ever come to Arizona, especially when it comes to those who do not tour for a living, so I am very happy indeed. Aside from being excited I'm kind of worried that I will forget just about every question I could think of, or I'll simply sound like an idiot if I do remember them.
The only artist who has effected me much and I have met is Amanda Palmer. Last summer she came through with her new band and the record that made Kickstarter history, I was the last person in line to get something signed and my brain just didn't connect. I wasn't stuttering over my words or dry-heaving, I just didn't connect this small woman covered in make-up and stage sweat to all the beautiful music that I had been appreciating for years. Almost as if I had the opposite of 'star shock.' I didn't ask that one little question about the song Blake that been buzzing around my brain for so long, and more importantly I don't know if I said "thank you for sharing your art." THAT is what I would have said to that woman on the record, it isn't what I said to the overly tired woman who had so patiently tended to all the fans after the show until there was just one large blonde young man left.
I hope to be more polite and gracious tomorrow. I also hope to ask a really good question or two as well. Seeing as Hatrack is why I ever read Name of the Wind, do any of you have a question you would ask?

I feel like if I ever met Patrick Rothfuss that I would consider it a victory if he left the encounter not hating my guts.

I love how introspective he is, and it's clear he has deep relationships, but I feel like he is an intensely introverted person.

I feel roughly the same way as BB (except I don't know if I'd consider it a victory per se), though maybe for different reasons. I'll answer anyway, 'cause why not?
I think he's a pretty good writer, but he seems deeply cynical/pessimistic in a way that I think is both wrong and unappealing. Something I've noticed especially in his nonfiction writing and interviews.
In reality I'd probably say a few words and move on in the huge line, but I think if we spoke for any real length of time we may not get along.

He advertises the fact that "yes, I still I hug fans." Introvert? maybe, but certainly outgoing enough to love his fans back.

I think you might be pleasantly surprised, then. When I saw him I was amazed by how utterly engaging he was. By the time the reading and Q&A session was over, I honestly had to remind myself that I hadn't really just made a new friend. He creates a sense of intimacy with his audience that is like nothing I've experienced from an author before (and I go to a fair number of readings and author talks).

I've seen him 2-3 times now and every time it's been a blast. As mentioned, he does a great job speaking and makes for a very fun and intimate experience, even when you're crammed in a room with a couple hundred other people.
My advice: 1) Get there early, and not just 10-15 minutes early... 2) Don't ask spoilery questions (he might answer spoilery questions for book 1 at this point, but back the first time I heard him speak he was very clear about that). 3) Try to ask short/concise questions (for the sake of the crowd). It's painful for the rest of us when it takes you 2 minutes to get your question out. 4) Questions I've been able to ask: a) What's your advice for a writer starting out (A: sit down and write, as inscribed on my copy of NotW) b) I've noticed that (in book 1 at least) you use a lot of very powerful 7-word phrases, which are at times called out in the book. Did those come naturally or did you have to work specifically to get those in there/right? (A: He worked hard at it).
I'm going to try to go down to Orange in a couple weeks when he's in town, but in the mean-time I'll be jealous of you.

Despite being on crutches he was very courteous and friendly. I asked him about the concentration on foot work without obsessing over exact movements. I'm paraphrasing but "I didn't do it on purpose, but I've had some experience in martial arts. I'm happy it turned out that way."
I never expected to own a first edition book signed and personalized by a best selling author. I also never expected to find a "I hate gays" protestor with a sign at a book festival.
