I know, I know. There's a 95% chance this movie will be kinda dumpy. But I still see this poster and think, "Could be awesome."
Why is it that nobody filled the niche that Commando, Rambo, Predator, Terminator / 2, Executive Decision, Escape from New York created?
I mean, I guess they are kinda juvenile, but are we just too bored to watch movies where big dudes, do over the top stuff to defeat the bad guys?

The problem I have with White House Down is that Olympus Has Fallen literally came out just a few months ago.
Their plots are so close it makes me not want to see either. Sorta like that weird Summer where Armageddon, and Deep Impact both came out.

I didn't see Olympus has Fallen, but it looked like it was a pretty serious Die Hard sort of take on things, whereas WHD is obviously an action buddy comedy.
But you're right, they are remarkably similar premises.

But see, those were two entirely different movies. And both great action flicks in their own ways. Similar plot device does not mean similar story. Plus, Morgan Freeman. I mean, come on.
Oh, and speaking of Freeman, I saw Now You See Me today. Probably mostly due to my expectations being extremely low going in, I was rather pleasantly surprised, in much the same way I was with 21 Jump Street.

I agree they are different movies, but the central threat and solutions being so similar still was a bit much for me.

I caught a sneak preview of "Now You See Me." It's pretty entertaining, but the "twist" at the end is terrible and makes the rest of the movie nonsensical. So be warned. I liked it up until the last 10 minutes.

What are all those Vin Diesel and Jason Statham movies then?

It seems to me that similar movies come out together all the time. Even when they are different I connect all sorts of movies together. Ants-A Bugs Life, Snow White and the Huntsman-Mirror Mirror, Matrix-Equilibruim.
I guess that's all I can think of right now aside from the ones that have already been mentioned. But yeah I have always found that chuckly (Not quite funny, not quite amusing, just chuckly).

Yes it's usually coincidence but often it's the result of competition between rival studios. Studio A finds out that studio b has optioned a giant, epic zombie flick, studio a tries to beat them to the box office with their own giant epic zombie pic.
