I watched 1-7 with him this summer, but have heard that R1 was a good bit rougher around the edges.

Keep spoilers to a minimum, but I do understand they may be necessary. Oh, and Happy Holidays!

I don't think I can really sum up the reason I don't think you should take your four-year-old without a major spoiler. Let's just say that it's a much darker movie than all but Episode III.

Is it a spot or two where I can just cover his eyes? Spoil if you must.

Considering that Episode 2/3 includes multiple child murder, a human being burned over 90% of his body, arms getting lopped off, and multiple casual murder, and episode V includes torture and accidental incest... really I think you're good.

You're just hearing this one is "Dark" because of the marketing. It's no more violent or disturbing than anything you've seen so far.

I wouldn't show episode 3 to a four-year-old, either.

Massive Spoilers*

This one has insanity inducing interrogation, both parents being violently killed on screen, every single main character being killed, and it all culminates with a group of men being sliced & diced, chocked to death, and a fellow being stabbed by a lightsaber coming out through a door.

None of the violence is implied, and it's not just blasters knocking people over. For goodness sake apparently the death star has 1 reactor setting that makes blowing up a planet take a couple of minutes, making sure there's a long drawn out death scene; and they do it twice.

I skipped the thread because I haven't seen it yet, just so I can say this: based on what I read on Common Sense Media, I'm not taking my Star-Wars loving 9-year-old to see it unless my husband or I see it first.

We haven't let him watch the prequels yet, either. (No big loss, of course.)

I want him to stay sensitive to violence. I'd rather have him see a non-porn sex scene or hear the f-word a zillion times.
