I have written two flashes with the same character. Both need to be polished, but I'm also looking for ideas on how to integrate them, possibly into a single, bigger short story. Any takers?1)
So I sit Sarah down after class and I tell her, "I'm concerned about you. I'm concerned about your safety." I make a show of sighing reluctantly and I turn away. I don't want to tell her any of this, my body language says. But circumstances have forced my hand. "The rumor among some of the students,"I tell her, "Is that D.C. brought a knife to school today. A knife," I say,"that she intends to use."
2)
So I grab the first kid I see and take him into the first floor boy’s room.
“Stand right here,” I say. “Don’t move.” I point to a spot on the tiled floor. He stands there, next to a row of urinals, looking horrified. The urinals are the tall kind that go all the way to the floor. He radiates a kind of confusion and a feeling of being very, very nervous.
It isn’t enough.

Together they clock in at about 2500 words.
