I'm having something of a problem finding the title for my current story. Which of these do you find most intriguing?

1. Gambler's Return/Revenge
2. Renunciation
3. Exile’s Quest
4. On a Throw of the Dice
5. The Drought
6. A Bitter Revenge
7. The Most Complete Revenge
8. What Belongs to the Lake...
9. Exile’s Belongings
10. Alienation
11. Mortal Possessions
12. Second Game
13. For a Further Game

YOu've got a few good choices in here:

1. Gambler's Return/Revenge
If you went with this one it would have to be revenge unless this is a sequel, IMO. As for "Gambler's Revenge" it doesn't strike me as something I'm going to pick up, let's move on.
2. Renunciation
Short, to the point, not bad. It doesn't turn me off but if I see some of these other titles sitting on the shelf right next to it I'll probably slip over that way.
3. Exile’s Quest
This is the catchiest so far. It doesn't have a lot of meaning but it might get me to read the back to get some more meaning...you'd bettter wow me with your summary though.
4. On a Throw of the Dice
I think this should be "A throw of the Dice" or just "Throw of the Dice" (depending upon which is more suitable) If you do one of those, I think this is the best tiel you have here and it will definitely get me to look at the back of the book.
5. The Drought
Boring.
6. A Bitter Revenge
Revenge as a title doesn't really work for me. It has negative connocations unless you give it real meaning, which you can't in a few words.
7. The Most Complete Revenge
ditto
8. What Belongs to the Lake...
This is competing with the dice one for best...I really like this one and would definitely flip over this book.
9. Exile’s Belongings
Nah
10. Alienation
Nah
11. Mortal Possessions
Nah
12. Second Game
Nah
13. For a Further Gam
Not bad...not as good as the favorites I pointed out but....

So in summary, I think your best bet is "Throw of the Dice" or "What Belongs to the Lake..."

On a Throw of the Dice. Though I like Christine's suggestion to shorten it to "Throw of the Dice."

My ONLY trouble with this is it makes it sound a bit like a Vegas gambling novel. But if the cover art were just right...

I also like What Belongs to the Lake.

1. Gambler's Return/Revenge
I like Gambler's Revenge (Return sounds like a sequel, which would be fine if it is)

2. Renunciation
Not bad.

3. Exile’s Quest
Personally, I've never liked the word "quest". Not sure why. It feels a little corny.

4. On a Throw of the Dice
Not bad. But not a favourite.

5. The Drought
Short and sweet. Quite a different feel than some of the others.

6. A Bitter Revenge
This is okay but I liked Gambler's Revenge better.

7. The Most Complete Revenge
Not a favourite.

8. What Belongs to the Lake...
Not bad.

9. Exile’s Belongings
nah.

10. Alienation
nah. Reminds me of T.V. show Alien Nation.

11. Mortal Possessions
This sounds really creepy. I love it!

12. Second Game
Sequel

13. For a Further Game
Sequel
----------

My favourites were (in no particular order):

    Mortal Possessions
    Gambler's Revenge
    The Drought

Going by the numbers:

1. Gambler's Return/Rvenge. You could possibly do a two novel story, and possibly set up for a third with these two titles. I like them both.

2. To me, it doesn't roll of the tongue rather well.

3. Exile's Quest sounds pretty good as a prequel to Number 1. (There's your third book)

4. Shorten it like the others have already suggested.

5. The Drought sounds more like an event story than anything else.

6. I like this one: Shorten it to "Bitter Revenge"

7. To me there'd need to be a reason for this title. Sounds wierd for some reason.

8. What belongs to the Lake: This could be a title to a place story, but I think that's just me.

9. Exile's Belongings: It just doesn't speak to me like 1,3, or 4.

10. Just as previously stated: Reminds me of the TV show.

11. Mortal Possessions: That would be a good title for a different situation than you have.

12. Second Game: Doesn't strike my fancy. (Sorry)

13. For a Further Game: Same as 12. Sorry again.

Those are just my opinions. But I think that you have come up with some good ideas. Keep at it.

I might even try it out when I try to come up with a title for my new piece that I'm building.

I just had a thought (I know! It surprised me as much as it did any of you!):

Why not mix and match some of these? For example: A Bitter Throw of the Dice...

Maybe that's not the best example, but play around with them and see if something strikes...
