Hi there! I guess this would be considered non-fiction, but....

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me some feedback on my essay for my med school application. It's 720 words (I'm only allowed 3500 characters), and I'm sure it's pretty dry. However, it's pretty important to me that I make it as good as I can, and Hatrack feedback has always done incredible things for my writing.

So...would anyone be willing to help me out? Thanks so much!

I'll look at it, without claiming any particular expertise.

Sure, send it my way. I write proposals for a living, well that's part of what I do anyway.

Jeraliey, I've edited such things several times for my daughters (one is in law school now), and I'd be happy to help you with this.

Well, with Kathleen on line, you don't need my input, but if you still think you'd like another set of eyes....

Kolona! Please don't say that. Your input is every bit as useful as mine.

You probably have enough readers (though you can send it over if you'd like another), but I just wanted to bid you good luck on your application!

What an exciting time in one's life! Enjoy it -- and try not to stress too much.

Well, here's an update.

I just submitted my application, and have commenced freaking out.

I wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to help me out. Your comments helped me to create a really tight, relevant essay that has received a lot of positive comments from the academic advisors at my school. With luck, admissions officers will think the same and give me a chance to pursue my lifelong goals at their institutions. You have my eternal gratitude. I can't thank you enough.

I hope you're having a great day!

Got my first Secondary application yesterday, from one of my more enticing choices. Basically, that means that they didn't reject me out of hand when they saw my primary, and still want me to apply Pretty exciting!

(Either that, or they still want my application fee, and they'll reject me out of hand the moment they receive it. Hee hee.)

I also watched a heart transplant on Sunday. Let me just say, HOLY CRAP, THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!

I'm definitely going to be a surgeon.

Eww!

I just have to say, putting a heart back into another guy after you've ripped it out of the first guy's chest...it certainly isn't something I would have thought up.

I had the opportunity of observing the placing of an artificial heart in a calf when they were still testing them that way.

It was quite interesting.

The thing I remember best, though, was when one of the surgeons yelled out, "Somebody catch this?"

The man standing next to me said, "Yo!" And the next thing I knew, something had flown out of the operation into the hand of the guy next to me.

It was a still-quivering calf heart.

Now that's cool. Ripping living bits out and putting machine bits in, that I can dig.

It's ridiculously cool...you should look up Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs). I did my summer research on them, and they are just too nifty for words.

Jerailey, I'm such a jerk. You needed this timelily (I just came from the Do Your Worst fiction challenge at Liberty Hall, so I'm adverbially awful today), and I didn't get it to you at all. And it's on another computer I can't get to right now. I swear, this is the first time I've done this.

Here's hoping it went well anyway! From what I remember, you had some great things to say. I process apps like that (not for med school), and it sounded good to me: the work at the volunteer organization, the emphasis on research interests.

You sure as heck aren't a jerk! Whereas I'm disappointed that I couldn't benefit from your feedback, I certainly never expect anyone to drop everything that's going on in their life in order to help me out. The application turned out well, I think, and I believe the essay that I ended up with represents me well. Now all I have to do is see if they want me

So thanks for the apology, but PLEASE don't feel bad! I understand!

Have a great day!
