Well written, but I can't say I'm really hooked. The only hook is that it takes place in Missouri, my home state, and well, that's not much for the average reader to go on. Out of curiosity, could you say what the piece is about?

If this is a piece of writing from a long time ago and you know it's not your best, why are you posting it for feedback? Do you plan to keep working on it? If so, you should probably rewrite it now that you've gotten better. Just sayin'.
