A friend of mine was recently asked to be Book Review Editor for the small press magazine The Gator Springs Gazette (avail. print and on-line). They like to review books devoted to the craft of writing, so you'll never guess whose book I chose when she asked me to write one...

Good choice! Or at least I hope so...it is sitting in front of me right now and I've only read the first few pages. So far, so good, though!

Congrats on the by-line. I've never really read any books on writing but I've heard of some good ones and Card's is always recommended. Good review.

Thanks, all. It feels a little like cheating when your friend is the editor. But my consolation is that she is only editor for the book reviews; the piece still had to pass muster with the editor-in-chief, so I guess it's okay.
"Characters and Viewpoint" really is a tremendously helpful book, and I'm not just saying that because of whose web-site this is.

Edmund, if your friend is a good editor, she would not accept an inferiour piece, even if it WAS written by a friend.
She would not have asked you to write a review, I'm sure, if she didn't feel you were completely capable of professional work. And you proved her right!
